Today I've been testing Pixelmator Pro (Creative Studio version). It remains a great app for image editing and vector work, but in my experience, it has an issue with its brush engine on both Mac and iPad. This issue is significant enough that I can't recommend it for doing finer work (such as illustration and digital art) at the moment.

I'd like to post this here to see if anyone else has the issue.

The issue is this:

Whenever you have pressure settings applied to your brush, the brush tapers at the beginning of each stroke, no matter how much pressure you're applying.

I've attached a screenshot demonstrating the issue. The thin end is where I started the stroke, with full pressure applied.

This happens regardless of which brush I have selected, and I've also tried adjusting settings to no avail. It happens on the Mac version (where I'm using a Wacom Cintiq 16 and a Wacom Intous Pro on my Mac mini M4 Pro), and on my iPad Pro M4 (with Apple Pencil Pro).

This makes doing line drawings, incredibly difficult.

Does anyone else have this issue?

I don't have or use the app, so apologies if this is a dumb suggestion:

What happens when you start the stroke briefly in the opposite direction then go back over it in the intended direction, all in one motion?

Hopefully someone who actually uses the app will eventually chime in with the solution to this pressure tapering issue.
