Finally did the 4.1 JB with LimeRa1n on my Mac tonight. Upgrading did not go too well. I had to stop the upgrade process and do the firmware upgrade on another Mac. I had to kill the process and do a restore. I do not use the sync feature to put music on my iPhone so I lost all the music on my iPhone. Later on I had to put it back by hand. I have over 200 playlists in iTunes so that was the hardest part.

The reason for this post is the easiest part of this process and restore was installing Cydia then Pkg Backup. Pkg Backup restored ALL of my Cydia apps and tweaks flawlessly. Then SBOragnizer restored my Springboard. Kudos to the dev of both apps Jibril Gueye. Sometimes buying apps is worth it, sometimes not. In this case the few bucks for both apps saved me hours of downloading and reinstalling and then probably 20 or 30 re-springs.

i agree, but for some reason when i went to restore with pkgbackup it only shows 82 pakages, but i remember when i backed up just before jailbreaking to 4.1 i had 140 packages backed up.

what gives???

Agreed on PkgBackup, did a great job for me as well. Only one package did not reinstall for me, Switcher Pro, not sure why, but I can live with that.

I had to sift through the backups (there is a button below the restore option, it's like the middle one) to find the right one. It didn't default to the correct backup.

Horror story here. Backed up packages before jailbreaking. Upgraded to 4.1 and jailbroke. PkgBackup "restored" my packages, but nothing was actually restored. Maybe it's not compatible with 4.1 yet?

No, it sure compatible 4.1!

To others +1, Bkg Backup is GREAT! I feel I never restore and upgrade to 4.1.

Wouldn't restore for me, kept asking for an active internet connection when there was one that was working fine.

Luckily i wrote everything down that i had installed and started from scratch.

PKGBackup v4.0.5 crashes on start up on my iPhone 4 iOS 4.1 with Limera1n.
Have I missed something?

How can I fix this? Please help, MR experts!

sweet!
I purchased pkgbackup and sborganizer a few days ago, after reading comments about them on here.

I'm taking the plunge tonight and upgrading to 4.1 followed by JB. Hopefully all goes smoothly.

Just a quick question about pkgBackup. Am I right to think that the backup contact needs to be renamed to 'Pkg Backup' in order for it to work properly? At the moment it is Pkg_random number

Only if you are going to restore to a different iPhone.....if it is the same iPhone, just leave the contact name alone.

Cracked versions of Pkgbachup will not work on 4.1. Just in case anyone was trying that.

Ok thanks.
So for argument's sake, if I backed up with a cracked version, then paid for an official version, should it work properly? Or would it still register that the back-up was from a cracked version?

Thanks!

ive never tried pkgbackup before, but shelled out the $5 for it last night. i was amazed on how it restored my phone to 100%. all my icons were even in the right place for the most part.

Things are falling into place with 4.1, but I'm still hesitant until all my packages are tested, the most important to me being FolderEnhancer. Amazing how many people moved from InfiniFolders to FE. Lance really seems to get the iPhone platform from a GUI perspective.

No knock on Infinifolders...that's still an awesome product and I did miss vertical scrolling for a while, but I'm over it.

Question...

I previously jailbroke 4.0 using Jailbreakme.com

I have the PKG BACKUP installed. Did a backup.

Now, I am about to restore my iPhone to upgrade
to 4.1 prior to rejailbreaking using LimeRain.

Is there anything else I need to do in order to preserve
all those installs I have on my current jailbroken iPhone?

Make sure you have a paid version of PgkBackUp (not cracked) and it will work fine.
After I worked that out, I'm actually surprised how well this works!

Edit: I didn't work that out, the nice people of MR helped me out!

I didn't have a paid version when I backed it up.

I will immediately buy it now that I have just
successfully jailbroken with limerain.

Hopefully it will still work.

Just install PKG BACKUP and hit restore? That's it?

yes just hit restore

Okay...

It kinda sorta worked out okay.

Jailbreak worked fine. From Cydia
I purchased PKG APP.

It restored all the graphical changes
I made but none of the programs I
had on there.

All the ROCK apps icons are all white
(no icon artwork). Not sure how to fix that.
