to put things in perspective.
I have two iphone 4, 1 I use and one to play with.
unfortunately pkgbackup can't restore a phone from another back up.
Anyhow, going from 4.0 to limera1n jailbreak 4.1, after loading cydia and pkgbackup, it took under 3 mnutes to restore the phone and layout using.
Loading the exact same packages and email accounts on the other ip4 it took well over 2 hours, countless resprings/reboot/reloading data/ and so on.
Now both phones have back ups to them.
This is one of the jb apps I have no problem paying for.:)

However, if you recall Rock did it for free :(

Silly question (well, I hope it isn't) but:

Where is your backup stored? How do you retrieve it say if you need to restore the phone and re-jailbreak?

That's a rather excellent question.

I would like to know where all the
backups are stored as well.

It's stored as a contact so as long as you are syncing your contacts with your computer, mobileme, google, etc., you'll always have a copy of it.

this application created a contact for me named pkg_2dxxxxxxxxxxxxxx(series of numbers)

can someone please tell me if its safe to delete this or do i need this as i am thinking it might be essential for back ups? thanks in advance!

That's your backup - you don't want to delete that. You'll need that if you ever want to do a restore via pkgbackup.

love pkgbackup.

with pkgbackup, my upgrade to 4.1 went smooth.
love this app. worth every penny.

i purchased pkgbackup, backed up everything... restored to 4.1, ran greenpoison, installed pkgbackup from cydia, restored all of my cydia apps via pkgbackup. all the restored apps have white icons? i have rebooted several times. (no winterboard or theming on my phone)

anyone else encounter this?

reinstalling one of the apps from cydia magically made them all show their icons.

i guess this is an issue with pkgbackup and greenpois0n?

Had same issue with Limeara1n. Rebooted a few times and all Cydia apps have their correct icons.

Yup, that did it for me do. Can't imagine why it works, but won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Thanks for the tip!

Does this program also save the settings for each of the apps or just the app list and reinstall on restore? I've used aptbackup which is free but it doesn't save your settings.

It is also just a list of apps and sources. If you restore as new you will have to reconfigure.

Purchased full version and have done full backups in the past. Now when I try to restore into 4.1 I get a message "Warning! it appears that your previous backup was corrupted!"

Well this stinks. Now what?

Go into your contacts and delete any of the "pkg_2dxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" entries. The run PkgBackup again, and it should work. That's what I did.

Any way to get this app to backup themes that you install via ssh? I notice that it backups themes that you get from Cydia, but not ones you install yourself.
