I'm thinking that it will be good to have a dedicated forum or at least a thread for discussing cydia apps. Obviously, the appstore forum is mostly used for apps in the appstore. This macrumors site would be the first place many j/bers come to, so it makes sense to have some sort of thread/forum dedicated to cydia apps and users' experiences with them, no?

I bring it up because I almost downloaded "Pro Switcher" based on recent comments here on the main iPhone 4.0 speculation article that recommended backgrounder + pro switcher. But doing some googling, I learned that the pro switcher app seems to have a memory leak on the modmyi site. So, I was able to keep myself from the added hassle by not downloading it.

(Or is there a different forum/thread on this site where this type of discussion is already taking place?)

This forum is the place for it. The iphone hacks section.

    First, pro switcher works great.

Second, you just posted this in the dedicated forum for cydia apps.

A dedicated forum within a dedicated forum for cydia apps is unnecessary.

You might be right; maybe that was the original intent of forum, but for me this forum seems to be best suited for 'hack how-to's', 'issues with hacks' and other issues related to the process of hacking itself. I guess I'm saying that just like there is a separate "app store" forum for apple-sanctioned apps to keep apps discussions separate from general iphone tips, howtos, issues, etc, having a separate cydia forum or subforum might be better.

Plus, apps in the appstore have user ratings; cydia doesn't support that natively, but couldn't this site serve to help vet out user feedback about specific apps?

Then again, if people think it's unnecessary, I don't have any real issues with that. Just an idea.

Why the sarcasm?... I said "for me this forum seems to be". I'm not laying down the law on any true intent or what not.

Just scrolling the front page of the forum here, the majority of the posts are about people who've got questions about how to hack, problems with downgrading, and other technical issues.

    So, nobody likes the idea?

I'd welcome this. There is far more help/how-tos in the forum than there are for apps.

No, I def see the point of it. Especially when you compared it to the app store subsection above. I think we're all just used to the way it is now, where we post individual threads about the cydia apps we want to review, rave, or rant about. But I can certainly see your point about it being over run with technical questions lately.
