I just got an email from Aspyr to let me know that Planet Coaster is coming to Mac later this year.

It’s one hell of a game if you like building roller coaster theme parks. I’ve seen some freaking amazing creations, but I burned out with it, cause I did not have the patience. It’s pretty involved if you are not familiar. :(

May I should try it again. 😜 The thing is you’ll go online and see these amazing parks, and feel small, at least I did.

installed the macOS version on my 2020 imac i7/5700.. runs great on High graphics in 5k

the cure for this is not to build a park.. just build a ride.. when its perfect build another, etc... then build the park.

But it has to be situated in a park. Yes, the ride has to be good, but the park must be coherent and intriguing. :) There are some parks that are so amazing they blew my mind.

Interested to see that Planet Coaster is now available on both Steam and Apple Mac Store. But what a rip-off on App Store, when currently on sale for half the price on Steam. I have not previously used Steam, can anyone help advise whether there are any disadvantages buying game from Steam as opposed to Apple App Store?

Never buy from the AppStore if it is available from Steam. On Steam you get access to the workshop so you can download add-ons, scenery, rides that people have created (need a light array for working in dark tunnels? someone made one that you can download and add to your tools). All of the DLC is on sale now also. Be sure to get the Adventure pack at least. Its the best DLC imo. and if you get a gaming pc in the future, you get the pc version for free on steam.

after you build the ride, you can move it to any park you create. a lot of people drown in Planet Coaster because they go in with the mindset that they need to create a whole perfect park. you don't need to. not in the beginning.. just create some rides, add scenery around them, sandbox it until you are happy with artifacts, trees, bushes, flowers, all around it. then you can export it and add it to a park you create.

tldr;
create rides. not parks in the beginning.

This runs very nicely on high graphics on my M1 Mac Mini.

All I've done so far is started a sandbox version and am trying to get to grips with how it works. I found the leaning curve for controls a bit steep, but have got the hang of it now.

be sure to use BetterTouchTool to give you a middle mouse button. it makes a huge difference when you toggle "T"

I managed to dig out an old and cheap mouse I had lying about. Before that I was only using the Magic Trackpad and literally couldn't play the game 😆

I use a magic mouse on my notebook with it.. never tried it with a trackpad.

I wouldn't try. You absolutely need a scroll wheel button and there's no way (I know of) to replicate this on the trackpad.
So my MBA M1 base model is preparing to ship and as a none gamer I am very interested in this game as well as maybe Planet Zoo in the future (with Parallels installed) do I absolutely need a magic mouse to play this game?

I've not got a Magic Mouse, so couldn't say. I just use a cheap wired mouse that I got from Amazon a few years ago. As the only thing I use the mouse for is a few games, that's all I need. I wouldn't buy a Magic Mouse just for games.

Other than that though, it should run nicely on the M1 Air. It runs like a dream on my Mini, even on highest settings.

just get a cheap two button belkin wired mouse with scroll wheel.. planet zoo will not work even on parallels with m1.. its refuses to even start.

Hmm, I thought I remember seeing several users talking about Planet Zoo and M1. Maybe I am mistaken. Planet Coaster works though? I am going to try the track pad first. I don't know how much of a gamer I am going to be.

planet coaster cannot be played with a trackpad, no matter how much you want to...
