Ok, I'm waiting for the 64GB 3G iPad, and planning on shuffling the laptop and desktop models I currently have. Since this is the perfect time for it, since Apple hasn't released the new i5 or i7 MacBook Pros.

    1. Sell 17" MacBook Pro 5,2 2.93ghz, 4GB, 500GB HD and 48GB SSD Boot Drive (guessing about $2000 on eBay)

    2. Buy 27" iMac i7 2.66ghz Quad Core ($2079)

    3. Sell 24" iMac 7,1 2.8ghz 4GB (guessing about $1100 on ebay)

Now the reasoning for all this is simple. I only use my MacBook Pro for web surfing in the living room or when we travel. Which is a big waste of the power. Since I will be depending on my desktop as the main computer in the house, and for syncing two iPhones, and iPad and an AppleTV. I want it to be as powerful as possible. What do you think?

That is the perfect setup, my friend. This is what I will eventually be doing; sell my MacBook, buy an iMac, and buy an iPad. Great minds think alike ;)

If I had a more permanent abode I would do likewise. As it is, the MBP will function as a portable desktop/media server for my iPad.

Be sure to budget for some nice roomy external storage for the iMac and swap a SSD inside!

Oh, I already have 2x WD 2TB external drives, and a 500GB Raid 0 My Book Pro II. I have a a Time Machine backup, and a full partition back up of my iMac. Also three copies of my media. I couldn't take losing all my music and movies.

I'm thinking about doing this also, but keeping my MBP since my wife needs a laptop. iMac + iPad will probably be a winning combo. I'm going to try it out first though. The only difference is I'm going to wait until Core i5 is standard and Core i7 is the upgrade on all models, so it will hopefully be less expensive. My main problem is I already have a really nice H-IPS monitor, which kind of makes me want another MBP to plug it into. I don't really have enough desk space for an iMac + 26" monitor.

Oh decisions. Either way I won't be pulling the trigger for awhile. A quad-core MBP would be nice next spring.
