So what would happen to my old iphone. If they do take it.

I have private stuff on there.

They wipe it and refurb it. If it bothers you, back up to iCloud or iTunes before you go in and restore the bad phone as new.

You'll have to restore as new to the new phone from iCloud/iTunes anyway to transfer your stuff over (they will ask you to make a backup to iCloud before taking your old phone) so this is really just a time saving step.

    Short for refurbish.

They will take your phone and strip it down. Bad parts will be replaced with new parts and old parts that are still good will be reconditioned. Then it will be inspected, tested and ultimately wind up in a white box as a replacement for someone else's bad phone.

In other words, if they replace your phone you don't get the old one back. Say goodby to it forever.
