play .avi in quicktime?

With either the DivX 5.2.1 codec or the DivX 6 beta codec, QuickTime 7 (including the latest 7.0.3) plays .avi files just fine. With QuickTime Pro and the proper codecs, you can export to numerous formats, including DivX AVI.

Alright, then Pro becomes an option, provided that I can get the audio working... are there any suggestions what may be wrong? (I have the DivX6, and 3ivX codecs, and QT 7.0.3, but I'm not getting any audio in avi files. Video is present and accounted for)

is there another tool similar to VLC? my computer keeps crashing with VLC opened
