I have probably over several hundred of my DVDs ripped to .dvdmedia files. I would like to be able to easily play them in the macOS DVD Player. It seems like I used to be able to +O and easily open any .dvdmedia file. It appears this is no longer possible without taking the .dvdmedia extension off the file, which essentially turns it into a folder.

Is there a terminal command that I can run that would re-enable this to easily function for me?

It seems that Apple went down the tried-and-false path of "instead of updating the app, rewrite it from scratch and lose some of the functionality". Also missing from the "new and improved" player is the option to play the audio as stored on the disc: Previous versions would try to "enhance" it by default, and now that's forced, making it next to unusable for concert DVDs.

VLC makes you change subtitles and audio for every single chapter. A real pain.
