Play GarageBand with iTunes playing too?

I stumbled upon this while going back and forth between a song I was playing on iTunes but trying to imitate it on GarageBand and they both were running but laggy. Was fun to play the garage band guitar with the song playing. Seemed unstable though...is this supposed to work?
