It's so silly from Apple that I have to laugh when I keep forgetting that Play Pause doesn't work anymore. How did Apple miss such a blatant bug?

Thanks for the tip. It's just silly, actually stupid from Apple saying that this is normal? So you can Mute, change volume in iTunes with the keyboard but no Pause, Play, FF, RW? Hilarious!!!! LOL

I'm sorry to bring that up, but the solution posted by calisurfboy is not good. If you use any other player (or mix of them: iTunes and Spotify) it won't work.

In Sierra and anything else before, media keys controlled app that is currently used for playback or the most recent one. In High Sierra Apple seems to have added support for videos from Safari (with higher priority than any other player). This too seems bugged and that's why at times media keys don't work at all.

Also in the Sierra, calls on Mac paused music but under High Sierra they just reduce volume which is worse solution IMO.

I hate that the play/pause button controls Safari over iTunes, too. A downright horrible design implementation. Equally as worse is when videos stop playing in Safari, and when you close the tab that contained the video, the play/pause button then controls nothing. It won't resume with iTunes. It just sits there doing absolutely nothing. I'll repeat, it has no control over anything.

So we've got a crazy, good for nothing feature combined with a freaking software bug. What the hell is going on at Apple?
Oh, that's right, emoji development.

If they could just revert rewind F7, play/pause F8, and fast forward F9 control to how it worked in every previous Macintosh OS version ever, all would be well.

10.13.6 media keys intermittently stop working for iTunes. Does Firefox have something to do with this? Really annoying and frustrating. How is Mojave for this?
