Your thread title says "wmc" and your post says "wmf", but do you mean "wmv"? If so, install Perian or use VLC, which should play them. If it's not, what error message, if any, are you getting?

If you want to change your thread title, click the "Edit" button on your original post, then click "Go Advanced" and you will see where to edit the thread title.

Install the free Flip4Mac and it will allow Quicktime to play WMV videos. This will also allow embedded WMV files on web pages to play.

Sorry, I don't know. It could be that Flip4Mac/Quicktime does not like reading from the Windows formatted (NTFS?) drive.

Don't go for the 3.0 beta, go for 2.4.4. 3.0, since it's a beta, gives the warning about expiring, and uses its own dedicated player (which, as far as I know, doesn't integrate with QT like 2.4.4 does).

That Flip Player app thing is separate and does not impact playing WMV in Quicktime. If you won't want it, you can just delete it from the Applications folder.

Where did you get the files? Perhaps they're corrupt. Can you provide a link, so others can test?

This thread is posted under "Mountain Lion", and Perian is NOT compatible with it (barring its last update which may come soon)...therefore, the only embedded solution is indeed Flip4Mac 3.0.

Thanks for that! One more reason I'm not anxious to update to ML!

Perian is compatible… sort of. I installed it and a lot of the time, it works just fine. There are some times when it doesn't work in QuickTime Player, although I've yet to see it not work for Quick Look. I'm pretty sure Perian hasn't ever handled wmv files though, hence Flip4Mac.

Perian has nothing to do with WMV. However, it does play VFW, MS-MPEG4 v1 and v2, and WMA. WMV on the Mac is the exclusive province of Flip4Mac. This makes the Mountain Lion question of Perian-compatibility a non-issue.

Now to the issue of Flip4Mac 3.0beta on OS X 10.8. It does not work with QuickTime X. However, it works without issue with QuickTime Player 7 on OS X 10.8. If you have a paid version of Flip4Mac, then its serial number works without issue with Flip4Mac 3.0beta.

Flip4Mac 3.0beta is working fine for me with Quicktime Player (the new default QT app) and also Quicktime Player 7 (the old app) and WMV video on Mountain Lion.

Thanks for the info. My issue is probably an individual file issue rather than a QuickTime X issue. We agree that Flip4Mac 3.0beta works with QuickTime on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
