So to start off the G9N screen on the iPhone 17 pro max 512gb silver is definitely “better” than the original one I had which is a GH3 it has a noticeable green tint when tilting vertically and a bit of uneven backlighting. Don’t get me wrong the screen looks great but I edit a lot of photos on my phone and the changes of color when tilting the screen didint fill me with confidence.

It took me 4 tries but I found a G9N screen and it has absolutely no shift not even the pink shift associated with Samsung screens. But all in all that is all I can notice the colours look maybe slightly more saturated and the backlight is very even.

Slightly off point but I’m really happy with the way the new one sounds “speaker lottery” it sounds fuller with deeper bass.

Anyway so what I need help with: the original iPhone I had was purchased on contract with a phone carrier (unlocked) obviously I want to keep the Samsung (which we was purchased at an Apple Store). What do I do? return the contract phone to apple?

Or just keep the Samsung and put the LG on eBay and take a hit?

Thanks.

Ehh… Firstly, this post is weird. Most people look for obvious defects like dead pixels, etc... what you’ve posted is extreme and quite hard to fathom.

Secondly, I believe Apple will check your IEMI number if you attempt to return your contract phone instead of the other one. In that case, you’ll likely need to sell the contract phone privately.

Returning the phone is gonna need to be the same serial number, so that's just not an option.

Do what you gotta do beyond that.

People like you returning phones for no reason is what pushes prices up for everyone else over time.
That's definitely not true. Apple's profit is huge... They don't care about those returns - they could easily change their policies.

Otherwise the products are that expensive that you can expect top notch quality! If I'm in the same boat I would also exchange until I'm happy as there are displays out there which are inferior. Just look at this forums here.

Not to mention useless trade wars, tariffs, global economy changes, inflation, rising cost of living, increasing costs of components and research for these components, shareholder demands, corporate greed, people demanding higher wages. Nope, it’s all 25 of us on here as well as the .00001% of people that actually notice these issues that will negatively impact the richest company on the planet. 😂😂😂

This forum is the only place where I ever hear about these sorts of things. Let's be real, an enthusiasts forum like this is going to attract people who are hyper fixated on small, arguably insignificant details about their device. Over the years I've seen numerous posts from people who have bought and returned several of the same device because of some "defect".

Also, the cost that they absorb for returns is certainly factored into the formula that Apple uses to calculate the price that they need to charge to make that huge profit.

I had 3 GH3 1 GVC and a G9N but the G9N has a small dent out of the box lol. Fantastic.
While i would take the one that has the perfect screen but if that perfect screen j it had a dent out of the box id be pissed and for me its an automatic return. I don’t care how prefect screen is, i just cannot stand that came that way damaged.

But they make enough interest on the money they are holding from you that’s due to be refunded

Bro! That’s unfortunate
It’s annoying it’s got the perfect screen no pink tint no green tint no grain perfectly uniform. I’m going to keep it if I can’t find another one the dent is very small but annoyingly it’s in view even with a case on

Seriously? Enough interest on your £1k within 14 days to cover the cost of refunding you, then refurbishing and either reselling cheaper because it can no longer be sold as new, or using it as a replacement device? I don't think 14 days worth of interest covers that.......especially considering you have done it multiple times.....

I'm the other way. I would rather not have the dent on my new, expensive, handset.

Look, I get it. These phones are expensive and people want perfection. I do too. But there's a limit. Most people want their handset to be scratch, mark, and dent free. Wanting specific components and searching through handsets, returning multiple units, until you get a specific internal component is taking it a bit far. In my opinion of course. For me, opening a new unit, making sure it is unmarked, and then switching on the unit is enough. As long as the screen is bright, sharp, and looks great to me, then that's me done. I wouldn't go looking at diagnostic reports etc, becoming obsessed with searching for issues, or specific components before I'm satisfied. If something arises during my own normal usage, then that's why I have Applecare.
All in my opinion of course ;)
