Hi there,

I am considering to buy a Drobo S with 4 x 2TB 7200 rpm hard drives to store my HD TV Shows / Movies downloads. These are 720p files purchased from iTunes.

I intend not to use the Drobo as a spare Time Machine back-up, but like an external hard drive with built-in redundency. After moving all of my media files to Drobo, I want to be able to play them straight from there in iTunes / QuickTime.

However, I have read several reviews that said that Drobo S is slow even with a FireWire 800 connection. Will this be a problem if I want to play a movie file from there?

Thanks for helping.

drobo is fast enough for your needs , but it has a lot of other issues. other uk buyers have purchased from this seller. 'owc'

I have two of these.

you could run the system as a raid10 via fw800 it is the same speed as the drobo but IMO safer. pick your own drives. you have the option of getting a raid card and running it via esata for more speed. ask nanofrog how.. esata needs a card fw800 does not.
