Thanks to Russian Youtube proxy video.2yxa.mobi easy playback is now available in OS9 - no TLS problems, no heavy javascript to wade through and no messing around with filetypes.

Browsing is easy and fast and pending on how busy their server is, waiting for your video to be transcoded to MPEG4 is no real chore - even better, become a VIP account holder and things happen faster...the price to become a VIP? $1 a month - that's £0.76 for me!

As an extra bonus, you can save the video you're watching straight from the QuickTime plugin window in Classilla.

Apart from anything else, this shows how low end internet services can be rolled out and made effective - and clearly at a modest price too.

Don't do that. Don't give him hope. lol

In a serious note, yeah, it really shows that low end internet services are possible and well within the W3C goals of internet for everyone.

But the big tech sillicon valley companies doesn't want that to happen, right? Or else everyone would be using the Internet with their 90's computers and Windows 98/OS 9 installed, instead of buying their newest operating system with bloatware and their newest expensive computers. LOL. (Sorry, I cannot be serious, really) 👀 🤔

No, there's no turning back for the majority...but retro computing is now a lucrative business as the target market is generally a financial solvent demographic...hence all the modern helper hardware for old systems now available.

It seems logical a subscription based online proxy service should happen soon?

The juxtaposition of Apple's expensive new fruity hardware on the one hand with a grizzled PowerPC resistance force on the other finding a way to stream youtube on an OS literally declared dead by the mothership almost twenty years ago is deliciously fruity. The next logical question is....how long can we go? Time to fire up the Tangerine Clamshell and find out. Hopefully it will start up. Boing. Damn that hard drive is loud.

What if the apple rainbow logo makes a comeback?
For some of us, it never went away. You cut me, most of the time I still bleed five colours. Sometimes I only bleed two (black and white) but that's because I support Newcastle United. On rare occasions I bleed white and red, but that's only when England are playing....

Проблема, веб-сайт на російській мові - do you all know Russian ?? To me it’s perfectly clear, but to all of you it may not be - you will be very happy to know since we used to be the USSR we are still backward with technology so this explains why most Eastern Europe nations allow older browsers to work. Ironic isn’t it ? I need to try this. Now, will this work say under Netscape, IE 5.17, or Classila is the only option ?

You forget my friend in the Soviet Eastern Europe countries we are 30 years behind America.. plus we support older stuff. Russia is backwards in technology like this, so what you find in USA will not work on OS 9, compared to the former USSR - which I am from. Dronecatcher is correct here.

"Backward" might be a somewhat inaccurate term. Perhaps true and tried: because if it hasn't broken, why bother replacing it? :) I spent time around people who were using AK-47s as a matter of life and death and favoured them over Western equipment. Soviet era tech was often deliberately fashioned from seemingly archaic choices because they actually offered advantages over their more modern counterparts. Also, older technology can pull off a few surprises - as history has demonstrated. ;)

You are correct in that our archaic technology did pull off many surprises.. Look at what we did to Afghanistan. Soviet artillery was really heavy then. But in terms of this website to allow OS 9 to work with it, we are lacking years behind with creating websites which don't block use of old browsers and OS's - in other words, we don't have a big tech running things here.

Ok, this is puzzling.. You have the same version of classila as i do, but when I go and type: http://video.2yxa/mobi - I get an error from classila stating it cannot communicate securely because there is no common encryption algorithim.. So, there has to be an issue with classila, and certainly not my typing of the site. What version of classila are you using, 9.3.4b or 9.3.3 ?

Now I am getting this while you do not - does this mean my Classila is destroyed ?

Ok, so you are using 9.3.3 - makes sense. Maybe I will just go back to 9.3.3, I plan to try with effort to compile crypto Ancienne and Classila on my PowerBook G4 titanium - I already have CodeWarrior 7.1, toolkits, and PowerMachten. If I was able to install Linux on my 2012 MacBook Pro to compile Browservice, then I shouldn’t have issues compiling a new version of Classila w/ 1.2 support. I am going to try. But, I will delete 9.3.4b(beta), abs go back to 9.3.3
The only possible difference is I'm not using the latest Classilla - I didn't upgrade as I couldn't see any benefit

Played around with the video conversion tools on 2yxa today after purchasing my $1 a month VIP subscription. The specs of the video playing are to the left of the video, and it plays, looks, and sounds quite nice after the conversion. I actually set higher bitrates for the video and sound than what it used, but the conversion parameters are limited by the source quality respectively, and the site will more often than not supply lower quality video than is posted on YouTube. Going to play around with this for a while to find the maximum quality settings for OS 9.

I originally converted this video with 320 kbps audio and at a much larger resolution (1920x1080) but the video stuttered and locked the system. I reconverted with 128 kbps audio and at 1200x600 and it now plays fine. Specs to the left.

It's one aspect of the site I never took advantage of - server side transcoding, particularly useful if you're stuck on one OS9 machine.
