So I really want a NEW iMac and was seriously considering one to replace my 2007 Mac Mini but I found one on Facebook marketplace that is more affordable .
I would love to purchase a maxed out 2017 Mac but finances don't allow that .
So this is what I found on Facebook .

2015 iMac 21.5 in
8 gig ram
1 TB hard drive
1.6 ghz i5
With Apple keyboard and Apple mouse
For $700 . (She went down from 775 after I asked )

Yeah it's not the best specs but it ain't bad. It can't be upgraded (to my knowing ) . I know it's not a power house but it is an upgrade from my mini . She said she doesn't use it much so it still works fine . She took photos of the specs which are below :

So a few questions .

1) Is $700 a fair price for this machine ?
2) Should I ask her to wipe (factory settings ) the machine clean before purchasing it ?
3) how does iLife software come ? I assume a flash drive or is it preinstalled and if she formats hard drive Am I screwed .
4) Since this hardware is not too old I can assume that Apple will update it and it can run newest OS without problems for the next few years ?

I was going to pick it up tomorrow (Sunday September 3rd ) so any advice and tips for purchasing this unit I would appriate it .

Any tips on buying software like Microsoft Office ?

Not to be negative, but that 1TB hard drive, unless it is an SSD and you do not say, will be as slow as molasses and the 21.5" model uses a 5400rpm hard drive. For mine it is a fair price, and to give it a boost you could always run a TB drive as an external, and use it as the boot drive with the operating system on it and selected in Start Up Disk as Boot Drive.

It will run High Sierra and good for probably about the next five years.

I used 1 tb 5400 rpm 2017 iMac. But not to mistaken , ssd good but overprice .

In my opinion, you should avoid a Facebook sale, and seriously consider buying from the Apple Refurbished store. If you did, you would get a full Apple warranty. With Facebook, all bets are off.

If I were you, this model is what I would strongly lean to, even if it is a few hundred dollars more.

That's actually what we decided !!

Ok everyone thanks for all the input it really helped .

My wife is tired of the computer purchasing discussion and is tired of my complaining about my Mac mini so she let me splurge .

We got this :

Refurbished 21.5-inch iMac 3.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 with Retina 4K display. Year 2017

$1,099.00

I'm happy
