Wow, that was a unique collection of replies. To those who tried to offer help - Thank you.

From the responses, I gather that there is no way to do what my wife is trying to do in OS X mail.

I was hoping that someone would have a creative solution, or 3rd party app. I know there are hundreds of solutions for this for Windows and I just wanted one decent one for OS X mail.

She can try the easily accessible character set in OS X and devise her own emoticons. Perhaps even start a trend.

Using Fontifier she can create her own characters by handwriting them, as long as she then provided the font to her friends.

If she is creative she should love a Mac.

Come on guys, lay off the dude's wife. Telling him to trade her in for a more compliant model isn't helpful. We like girls because they're soft and cuddly and smell good. If they want to dream of unicorns and put smilies in every email, we must let them do it. As for solutions using OS X mail though, I have none.

Bummer. I misread the title as "Please help me covet my wife".

I thus got my hopes up for an entertaining thread and now I'm dissapointed :(.

Good luck converting your wife anyway Lanman :).
