I’m losing my mind and I hope someone can help me. I take lots of pics and video which I then transfer to my iMac to store on a few different external hard drives. I usually air drop but it’s become really inconsistent and takes SOOO long to transfer 3 minute videos. I tried using “image capture” but it’s not showing all of my brand new photos and videos, so I can’t transfer my most recent stuff. Does anyone have a GOOD easy way to transfer. This airdrop BS is getting old. Thank you.

This is generally a symptom of using iCloud Photos with Optimize enabled. Have you considered setting up iCloud on your Mac too? Then they'll just "Show up" and you can transfer them to the external from Photos on the Mac.

Thanks for the response. Would setting up iCloud on my iMac effect storage on my iMac? I assume not, but I’m not wicked tech savvy. So setting up iCloud on my iMac would mean I’d have access to everything in my camera roll right on my Mac?

You would, yes. Just like with your iPhone, you can "Optimize" storage so that the photos are still kept on iCloud but only downloaded when necessary (if you export or edit or print, for example)
