Long story short, I can't really decipher the battery usage, on a day, on my XS Max.

With IOS 11 (until the last update pre-12), It showed the hours in standby and the actual screen on time; now, on IOS 12, on the Max, one day it showed 5h of screen-on and 1.45 h on standby. After about 1 h of non-usage, the standby time remained the same (why??) while the screen on time was reduced considerably (to 3.5 hours)!

I don’t understand how to read this results, or if I have to set up something in the battery settings.
It’s not about the usage itself because the battery lasts till bed time without problems, and generally I go to sleep with a 30% residual!

Here are some screenshots to explain the situation.

Press the button opposite to the 24 hour one and then press the line graph on the actual day and it will show the screen on/ times and usage of all the separate apps

This is today only

Ok, I followed your kind advice and now this is what it shows

While the screen-on time could be plausible, the standby time is not!
There’s something strange though, I unplugged the charger at 6.43 this morning and now shows only 1.08 hours of standby/screen off!

It’s not telling you how much time the screen was off.

It’s telling you how much time apps spent running in the background WHILE the screen was off.

This probably the hundredth time I’ve seen this question between this forum and Reddit, so clearly this is a case of Apple not making it clear exactly what that figure means. Hopefully they clarify in a future update.

I can’t answer the OP’s question, but I have a similar question about how to interpret the battery stats in iOS 12.

In iOS 11, the battery stats would show you how much usage you got since the last full charge. Using that and the remaining battery percentage, you could estimate your total battery life.

For example, if the stats show 7 hours of active usage since the last full charge and you have 30% battery life remaining, you probably have about 3 hours left, or 10 hours total.

Yes, I know the % remaining is sometimes inaccurate, but this method at least gives you a rough idea of your device’s total battery life.

With iOS 12, it shows you amount of active use over the past 24 hours, not since last full charge.

Is there a way to get an estimate of your battery life in iOS 12?

The new battery thing is trash. Haven’t charged my device for a full day and this is what it says.
