Well they say 14 days but mine only took 3. Its quicker for people on pay as you go apparently as they actually pay, whereas O2 contract sufferers get the unlock for free.

Sorry, can't help with Switzerland! Could always try here though www.iphoneunlockuk.com , they seem to be able to unlock all sorts, however, it does cost you.

Never use that site, it's a scam. Every iPhone unlock and jailbreak is free.
If you have been charged, you have been scammed.

Disagree completely. Some people just aren't tech savvy enough to unlock an iPhone. They bundle it in software which makes it quick and easy, and provide full support, so if you do get stuck, they'll make sure they get it unlocked or your money back. Granted I only used it for the first gen iPhone when I was new to iPhones and that, but I only paid £20, and it did it in no time.

Had a friend who bought a 3G second hand, tried all different types of software unlocks, none would work, they got it done.

And yes, I do sound like I'm advertising for them, but I've not heard anything bad. Granted, the prices they charge are much higher than they used to be.

Those places sell software that was created by people like geohot and the DevTeam, which is available for free to users. Conveniently if you go and purchase some sort of unlock that isn't available yet for free those companies will email you letting you know that "they're working on it now and will email you when it's available". It's a scam to get people to pay for something that is free.

I agree completely. But if you are stuck, and are at your wits end, what else can you do.

I bought an iPhone 2G from O2 for £180, back when you had to activate and set up your contract online. Bought software from them that activated and unlocked for £20, and I didn't have to go setting up a contract. So for £200 I had a fully working unlocked iPhone. I was one happy bunny.
