iPhone and iPod repair company fixes everything!

Hi guys,

My 3G had water spilt on it. I tried the rice deal too but had no luck.

I ended up taking it to iShopRepair.ca in Toronto for testing. The replaced my dock connector and bang! working iPhone. They gave me a warranty on the work too. I'm not even dealing with Apple anymore.

www.iShopRepair.ca

good luck!

I dropped my iPhone into a glass of water. After having problems like the ones you mentioned, it then developed streaks under the glass. I can personally attest that the rice method saved my phone. Try putting it in a bucket of rice, and occasionally heat up the rice with a hair dryer. It make take a few days, but it's a lot cheaper than trying to fix your phone. Good luck. And don't try and plug it in again.

that's either areally good shot or really dumb.

White indicator

hey guys,
recently i did the most stupid thing i think possible while installing my invisible shield. i turned my iphone on before i dry the excess solution
apparently it started to gif me problems like restarting, showing the power off option at random. But after drying out the phone for a whole night infront of a fan, everything went back to normal. i juz checked my audio jack water indicator and its still white, so does that means my warranty is still intact??

Just a quick conribution. The water detector is inside the 3.5mm jack and turns color (pink) when exposed. It's the first thing the Genius looked for when I had battery issues.

There are at least 4 moisture sensors in the 3G

I've seen some speculation on the number and locations of moisture sensors on the 3G. I can say there are at least 4 I've seen.

1) Located in base of audio connector. I've not seen this one yet but there is a photo showing this one.
2 and 3) There are 2 stickers on the main board casing. These are visible when you open the case. The detector should have an outer black ring with a center white dot that changes to pink or red when tripped.
4) This is the one I've seen no one discuss. It's rectangular and stuck to the bottom edge of the dock connector. A part of it is exposed in the connector and can be seen at an angle as a visible white dot that turns to pink or red.

The Genius at the Apple store check out the audio connector base first and then probably the dock. I'm guessing they open the case in the event the one visible from the outside are not tripped. I've heard of a Genius pressing hard on the glass to see if moisture is present in the screen. In my opinion this is incorrect test as new iPhones will also produce what appears to be liquid in the screen when in reality it's just the glass contacting the film underneath.

I would not attempt to do anything stupid such as shove white paper into the audio connecter or bleach as some have suggested. You might be able to fool the in store Genius if they've had a bad night but a post-op inspection at the factory will cause Apple to back-bill you for the full cost of a replacement phone.

I’d love to hear from any experts who know of more indicators.

it doesnt take full immersion

Preventative measures? How about keeping your phone away from liquids.

your sarcasm is funny, but ignorant. the liquid sensor will trigger at the smallest amount of VAPOR, thats right, VAPOR. its build that way so it covers Apple completely. if you happen to live in a humid climate, your iphone warrantee most likely was void as soon as you left the store. ever notice the silica packets in the box?

Apple makes great products, but the customer service is far from great. we are not talking about Nordstrom. Nowhere in Apple's mission statement nor its core values as a corporation, does it even suggest that customer service is part of their institution. they want you to buy the product. when it breaks, they want you to buy a new one. its that simple. if you choose to support the brand, which i do, you sign up for this when you hand over your cash.

my iphone's silent toggle busted off, the warrantee was void because of "water damage". my phone has not been in or near water, ever. just buy a new one and keep it in a bag of rice or you will loose your warrantee.

3G water then dropped

Ok, a couple of months ago, I dropped my 3g in a puddle. Did the rice trick and it worked. Then, I dropped it on my wood floor and the screen went all crazy. It still works, but the screen won't show what is happening. Do I

-send it to a repair place?
-try rice again?
-bang it hard?

Help with thoughts please...

Why don't you lay off him a bit. Not everyone knows exactly what to do when these types of things happen.

snverhallen

UM...sorry to have to state the obvious, but the OP posted and got several replies right away telling him exactly what to do, then he goes ahead and half listens to them.

Either he's stupid or doesn't care too much about his phone. I know if it were any of us here, we'd be frantically refreshing the page and following every word very closely.

To echo what everyone else said: Electricity and water do NOT mix.
Do NOT plug a charger in.
Do NOT turn the phone on.
Put it in a bowl of rice after taping up the connectors and LEAVE IT ALONE for a week!

Apple has a water damage replacement policy...so take it to them...;) see what happens.

Try the rice trick but not sure if it can be brought back to life.
Water damage to electronics is the worst.
You might have to get a new one.

iphone

An eighth of a cup, no more, no less. If you're off on this amount, your iPhone will explode.

Seriously, just fill up the ziplock and put in the iPhone. You just need enough rice to absorb water.

What kind of rice works best? Probably something small right?
