I don't know how iphones work but my son dropped his 5 s and cracked the screen. now we can't get into it, the password function does not work, and he wants to save his data before getting a new iphone so he can put it on the new one.

1 - is there a way to get into the phone to save the data given that we can't get passed the password question?
2 - once inside, if we can get in, how do we save the data - easiest way please. I am a novice at best.

thank you so much

Even with the screen locked, you should be able to attach it to a computer with a USB cable and use iTunes to do a manual backup to get the data off of there.

Does he have icloud setup on his phone? If so, no worries. Icloud back his data up automatically

That's pretty much the best solution.
