Hi, I was wondering if somebody could help as I've spent the last 4 hours or so trying everything possible to get my girlfriends iPhone working but with zero success.

It's an I phone 3s which only had IOS 4.1, due to this she could not use many apps or download anything new. So I updated to the latest IOS software. After doing this the phone would not allow me to activate giving me the message "your IPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily Is unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes . If this problem persists contact apple support at apple.com/support. "

I have been on apple support and there is not much useful information on there. I have been on numerous forums and it seemed like a dfu recovery would solve the problem. It didn't, I did a dfu and it lead me to exactly the same screen. I can't access any of the phone through I tunes because when i plug it into the laptop it says on the itunes screen" activation of iPhone failed, server unavailable. Please try again later or contact apple support"

So basically we have gone from a working phone this morning to a useless lump of plastic as a result of attempting to upgrade the IOS software.

In regards to the phone itself, it was acquired in the uk and was on contract. The contract expired and my girlfriend moved back to Ukraine which is where we are now. She has been using this phone without any problems with a ukranian SIM card on a ukranian network. I'm not sure if this effects anything?!

If anybody has any suggestions or knows how to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated. It's become very frustrating, I'm not exactly in the girlfriends good books either :)

    Many thanks in advance

Do you still have the original UK SIM card? What company was it locked to in first place. Even though it is unlocked, you might want to use a SIM card from the original carrier during the activation process.
