If you have an ALUMINUM MacBook and you updated to 10.5.6 with Software Update (NOT the Combo Update), then please post the build number here.

The more replies, the better.

Also, please specify if you have 2.0 or 2.4. Thanks for your help.

It matters because I have a plastic white MacBook 2.2, and am considering buying an aluminum MacBook, and I simply want to pop in my old hard drive and start using it right away without reinstalling anything. This was not possible when the aluminum MacBooks were first released, because they had a special build number of 10.5.5 that existed only on aluminum MacBooks. That special build contained drivers not available on other Intel MacBook builds of 10.5.5, so a simple hard drive swap was not possible.

If you have 10.5.5 on a DESKTOP Mac (Intel or PPC) and use the Combo 10.5.6 updater to move it to Build 9G55, will this OS then boot a current-release Aluminum MacBook / MacBook Pro?

In other words, do we again have a Universal Boot OS?

The answer is YES -- 10.5.6 moves us back to a Universal Boot OS.

After installing 10.5.6 from the recently released 'Mac Box Set', the build number has now jumped to: 9G66
