Apple's pictures make it look a little better than it really is. It's not that bloody shiny and perfect. The grainy pics I stuck up last year gave a more realistic impression.

On a related note, there appears to be a lack of detailed third-party reviews of the iBook G4 out there. Coming from PC land where every new product is reviewed and photographed in detail, I find this rather odd. On the other hand, most of the time these "reviews" amount to something that could be more suitably called "semi-critical hype", so it's not necessarily a bad thing if it forces you to resort to forums where you may find real complaints from real users instead of the fairy-land account from some reviewer who got the product as a freebie and only uses it for a day or two.

I'd pay that just to get the metal casing.

The 12" PowerBook also has better speakers, Bluetooth standard, and a better keyboard.

But for $75 more he would be getting a used machine right? And I don't know why the metal casing is better, the polycarbonate on the iBook seems quite nice to me. And the keyboard on the new iBooks is very nice, much sturdier than the one on my TiBook. I don't know about the speakers, although I do know the G4 iBook speakers are better than the ones in my Ti. And standard BT versus BTO BT... well who really cares as long as you can get it.
