Hi,

my late 2008 MBP has a leak rate of 1.16%/hour in sleep mode (from 100% to 72% in 24h) with latest Dec 10 updates.

I checked my wife's 12" Powerbook G4, it is around 0.4%/hour after 3 years use.

So it is not a factor 10 different, and may be due to both a "weaker" battery, and maybe a pulsing LED which consumes more power than the older ones?

As Trivial Rock mentions, it seems it will not be enough for Apple to recognize it as a real problem. I would nevertheless like to have an option to pick up a more beefy battery, even if it should weight a bit more

So here's an update. I submitted some diagnostic tests to the engineering department and got a call today saying they want me to ship in my laptop so they can basically dissect it and figure out the power drain. They would send me a brand new MBP as a replacement. I'm debating whether or not to do it though because I am very happy with my laptop. particularly the screen on it and I don't want to risk getting one with a worse screen. I don't know why they can't just test the laptops they have in house though, since all the MBPs are having this issue. Also I get about 1% per hour drain, whereas others get almost 2%, so what if I get one that's worse in that regard as well?

I finally paid attention to my MBP's overnight battery drain rate to see what all the fuss is about. I put it to sleep at 11:30pm and woke it at 9:00am and I found that the battery drained 5% from 100% to 95% overnight. To me that's normal and even if it drained a little more than that I still see no cause for alarm.

This thread is regarding the NEW unibody MBP. Your sig states the prev gen 17". 5% is good, we are getting about 15% in the same time period. Add that up over a day and its significant.
