Please recommend software to convert low resolution MP4 video to high resolution MP4 video that's just been recently downloaded to the drive.

I mean, you can upscale it, but there's a saying in digital signal processing: "Garbage in, garbage out". If the data isn't there in the input no software can just (accurately) make up that data.
Topaz Labs has a professional offering for upscaling and other processing

If it's anime video or similar art style, dandere2x might be an option (based on waifu2x)

You can "dress up" the sow's ear a little, but you're not gonna convert it into a silk purse...

How can a low resolution original be just magically “converted” into high resolution?! The data is not there to begin with. You can go down by losing data but can’t make up for lost data. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I forgot to mention that I'm running 10.11.6. The Topaz software you recommend requires 10.13. Almost had it. . . .

Has anyone compressed a video before? I need to compress quite a lot of videos and move them to other hard drives. Which software is better to use in order not to lose quality after video compression?

Thanks for the advice, I tried to use the handbrake, the interface, of course, is not very good. But in general, you can get used to it. Moreover, this is free software. By the way, I found a web service that compresses videos, but there are limitations there. Only videos lasting up to 20 minutes. But in general, too, nothing.

I use Movavi Video Converter Premium. One license can be used for both Mac and Windows and it even supports converting to specific devices (ie. iPad, iPhone) to downsize the video without quality loss.
