I don't remember saying that this issue was causing me problems, can you show me where I said that?
My point exactly, hence I asked because you did not say what problems it is causing.

Seeing a glitchy flash every time I turn off my laptop just makes me feel like i'm using a broken machine. If you are ok with it then by all means enjoy it.
Again, I think you did not get the point everyone tried to tell you.

Anyway, is this the only issue you have with your machine?
I mean you don't see any slight scratches on the screen, any dents or scratches on the body, your trackpad is evenly recessed in every corner, your display is completely even, battery life is not poor, keyboard keys never get stuck or charger cable not leaving sticky residue on your hands or every surface it touches?
Those were just a list of what I have seen with mine out of the box and they cannot be fixed by software but are more or less accepted around this forum and categotized as normal for mass production unit… I beg to differ.
Also there are many who complain their displays have back light bleeding, or all legs don't touch the table (twisted chassis), bottom plate uneven, display lid not even when closed in every corner and so on...
So I just wanted to make sure, your only problem is this what it does during power down and it is completely free of all other issues? Where I can get one? :)

Update to my story. Second MacBook Pro Apple send me has the same fault: flicker upon shutdown. Two MacBooks with the same problem. Tech support told me: 1) this is software problem and updates probably fix it; 2) Issue only appears upon shutdown, Apple engineers know it and trying to solve.

So I just thought: "Ok, if it only appears when I switch notebook off, maybe it is not a problem at all. I just want to be sure that this flicker do not annoy me when i use my MacBook. But unfortunately it appears during working on laptop too. I watched movie on web cinema and several times caught this flash (check video). I think this is definitely not OK. That's why I return 2nd MacBook and take my money back. Tech support even told me that probably this will happen on all MacBooks in this current shipment, so I can run into this problem with 3rd and 4th notebooks. Probably my experience will be helpful for some of you.

That is likely not going to go away by exchanging units, as even my MBP 13" 2019 does it, so it is simply (likely) a software/firmware/driver bug that probably/likely will be fixed eventually, probably in the next MacOS version if it goes like what happened with Mojave… With the latter part, I mean there was sporadic flickers during use and it was completely fixed in Catalina.

That is something new, and I have not seen that happening with mine. Maybe similar thing as it was with Mojave if tech support already acknowledged that but if it does not happen on every unit of this model it could something else too. If you want to make sure, I guess return/refund is a good choice at this point if you don't absolutely need a new machine right now. And even if you do, there are plenty of other notebooks around, even better ones.

Is it just me but after installing the latest MacOS update released this week for Catalina stopped that power off flicker?
I looked it carefully today when I powered it down and I did not notice it. I did not bother to test again to make sure if I just missed that, so I may have mistaken.

Hang on - you can shut a MacBook down??????

lol - I'm just kidding. I generally just close etc slid. Cant remember the last time I shut down!

I guess that is what majority of peoples do and that's why practically no one even cares about what some complain here.
I'm used to power down my computers always when I stop using them. The best way to avoid all kinds of weird thing these so called sleep modes (eventually) often cause. Seriously it does not take that long to power up and you have a fresh system running that way.

I agree, that’s my way too:) But after Apple support told me that it’s happening only during switch off I decided to stay with this MacBook. But after it happened during the movie my opinion changed and today I returned it. But Apple support offered me one more option: order another color. I purchased two silver MacBooks, now I will try Space Grey. According to Apple service, Space Grey models belong to completely different shipment, so maybe next one (the 3rd) will be lucky one 😃

About your update message: yeah, after latest update for some time this flickers disappeared, but it appeared again very soon: during shutdown and watching movie too, like it was before update.

WOW, that's awful. Thanks for letting me know I made the right choice. 0906742 please enjoy that garbage, you can get it from your local apple store if you're looking for it. I returned my 2020 mbp and took my money back too. I may try again around back to school but I also might not. Tons of great windows laptops out right now and that XPS 13 looks very sexy.

I agree, there are much better notebooks out there unless you absolutely want to have the one with certain fruit logo. My only reason was that fruit logo and no other sensible reason. :)
Sure I like the design of this machine too but if I just wanted a solid machine to carry with me daily, I would not even consider using this one.

But I want to make clear that my MBP 2019 13" model ONLY did that flicker when powering down, never while I'm using it with Catalina.

Tell your story please? You had the same issue? Maybe I should avoid ordering 3rd MacBook in Space Grey if it is global problem, not with this separate shipment?

Did you notice flicker on Mojave before you updated to Catalina?

Yes. It was totally fixed in Catalina, I have never seen it since.

Wow, initially I thought you had this issue on Catalina, not previous versions of OSX. Now I see: you had it on Mojave. And we – MBP2020 users – have this problem on Catalina and unfortunately can't check it on Mojave :)

BTW, Apple support service is brilliant. I told them I'm sorry I return 2nd notebook (as you know Apple pays for all the deliveries, it's free for me) and they answered that they should apologize to me for this issues. And none of the employee even tried to convince me that this is ok and I shouldn't pay attention to this issue. Their message was: "You pay a lot of money and want to get a product without any minor issues from the box".

I just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing here. I had flickering sporadically during use with Mojave and that was completely fixed in Catalina, but Catalina does flicker when I power down (but seems like the latest update might have fixed that too, not sure and don't really care as it is only sw problem).

Yes, while you are within return window. At least that is my experience with them.

I made a thread about it, check it out in my previous posts. My 2020 mpb arrived dirty, with the screen flicker issue and with a power button that was being finicky. I returned it the next day. Some info that isn't in my thread is that someone advised me to speak to apple about making the situation right, I called to speak to a supervisor like 2 weeks ago and they said one would call me. A week later nobody called so I called back to request a call again and now 2 weeks later I have no call from any supervisor. Its such a horrible experience for a first time apple buyer.

The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on an XPS 13 is because you cant get them with 16gb ram, i5 and 256gb SSD like you can with the mbp. You have to move to 512gb SSD to get 16gb ram which I think is dumb. This raises the price away from what id like to spend. Also I really wanted to try out Mac OS. So ya, If I were you I wouldnt be buying anymore Macbooks from this production cycle, not until they get their quality control fixed anyway.

Mostly, because we do not shut down our Mac. My only restart is the occasional 'required-by-OS-upgrade'.
Yeah, for me really this are big news that so many people do not shutdown their MacBook after work. Now I start doing it too :)

But can we agree that if we don't see the problem that doesn't mean it actually does not exist, right? And in my case I had this issue not only upon shutdown, unfortunately.
