I'm a senior in college right now and I made my switch in October of 2008. It was a pretty easy transition for me overall I think. I have had a good experience overall.

If I ordered in June, what kind of iPod Touch can I expect (to sell later), and what kind of printer from the rebates?

Also, on a speculative note, by this next refresh when I plan to order, will all MacBooks incorporate the aluminum Unibody and possibly all backlit keyboards?

Thanks for all your inputs everyone, by the way.

iPod Touch offer is only on in August/Oct (UK) and around July'ish for US customers. Its only on for 30 days.

Regarding future designs for the Macbook - I very much doubt they would change the design again, considering the refresh was three months ago. Speed bumps are likely.

I dunno, after hearing that one horror story from eBay about the $900 fraudulent 2.0 MB, maybe I should go Apple and wait for the rebates?

Or maybe I should go for Craigslist? Which, do you think, would be the cheapest price, overall, for a MacBook by June?

Overall, I want to hopefully get the best deal possible on a 2.4 GHZ MB, because I was lucky to get a new 32GB iPod Touch from eBay for $270.

Also I'm a bit upset because last year I got in a car collision and smashed the front end of my car. Worked 2 summers to buy it (Toyota Camry), and in the first 10 days it got wrecked. Looks like only the radiator, battery, bumper, side fenders, and lights/ signals need replacement (plus $350 paint job to match the parts). I am really really upset and concerned that these repairs will lower my chances of convincing my parents to get a MacBook.

I am a good student, held a very strong 3.9 GPA with honors and AP classes, my insurance didn't go up from the collision, and it paid for the two other cars but my own (no collision insurance since it costs so much for a teen).

What should I do? I have the money to repair the car, but still, I am very concerned about the MacBook, since its premium cost will shove a big fat NO in my face if I present myself wrong here.

Best decision I've ever made. As an IT Manager I despise using Windows. I never realized how annoying Windows can be. I've had my MacBook since '06, and will never go back. The system is well thought out, and it is true when they say it just works. As you can see I've gone pretty much  since then. I even got my parents to switch, and considering they are former Window users that would always virus/spyware/malware their system up life is easier.

At work, I find myself trying to use certain efficient OS systems in OS X that XP just doesn't have. I miss Expose while I'm at work.

You won't regret the switch, and the learning curve is pretty quick.

I will make this short and simple. Have used PC's since 1992,Late nights missing drivers, errors, programs not loading, missing files, etc. Have been a mac user since fall, brother gave me a 12" Powerbook, played with that for a few months loved it. and sold it and got new unibody 2.4, love it, I will never go back to a PC! I will do without a computer if I have to go back to a PC! Mac all the way!!!!:apple:

Particularly former pc users, how has your first fresh taste of a mac with osx been? What do you love most about switching from a pc? What do you dislike? And finally, what do you see yourself do most on your MacBook?

Was your switch easy or not so? Enlighten me, a pc user thinking about switching for college. Sorry for any typos I'm typing on my iPod touch.

*Maybe I should add this...*

Recently bought a Macbook 2.4 Alu, at university. I also have a desktop here running Win 7 and Win 7 on boot camp. Laptop is great, build quality is great and no dead pixels which i was very pleased about. It also runs Fallout 3 pretty well which i was surprised at!

Network connection via ethernet was fine, i replaced the apps i didn't want to use - ie safari and mail with thunderbird and firefox. I copied over my application data from my desktop to the macbook easily. Usage wise i've used OS X before and i think it's great.

A few interesting things from using windows, resizing windows takes getting used to - ie only from the bottom corner. And the maximise button is a little quirky (not entirely sure if it knows what maximise means but there we go) - i miss the "drag to the top" maximise in Windows 7 though. You also have to get used to the keyboard shortcuts (ie the same but cmd + key instead of ctrl).

The keyboard "alt" codes are a lot better than Windows from what i've seen, easily being able to access things like ± and ∆ without numpad alt codes is great.

I'm not so much switching as complementing. I think macs make better laptops and windows make better desktops personally. It boots damn fast and OS X isolates applications well (ie if something crashes you can still do stuff in other windows).

Well worth the price tag i think.

What do i love the most? The fact it supports NEF files straight from my D40 without needing an intermediary like Irfanview :D

my problem of being a mac user is that i can not cut and paste a file. i still have to copy then paste then delete.

Seriously, lets look into my understanding of the car situation I am in VS the possibility of getting a Mac.

for you car...check into car or toyota forums and look around for a good shop around you that might not be straight from toyota.

for instance...i found my shop i use for anything car related at my scionlife forums. since then i have not needed to look anywhere for a better deal nor do i need to worry about what type of craftmanship is put into body or engine work.

do you NEED a new computer right now? my xb always comes first. if i got into some kind of wreck that would need minimal work, then maybe i wouldnt mind...but youre talking about alot of stuff.

I don't need a computer now, but surely I would like to have one by early summer. It's college, I need a break and a nice gadget for high school graduation!

And it's been wrecked since September 10. I am really afraid the frame is bent, or the tranny/ engine is messed up. I can raise the hood, and it looks like the impact stopped right in front of the engine. No apparent harm on either.

Still, the fear is not knowing. I have already lost $1000 from this, and really pissed because I worked two summers, and as a teen, money is so hard to come by. I am afraid now with this economy, it'll be hard to find a job, and now I would be in turmoil and cannot even drive. I have money saved up, of course, but I feel I'd have to use all of it for emergency.

So the past 2 days, I have taken apart the hood and bumper. I will also be getting a mechanic to see how my car looks, and if I would be better off replacing parts or buying a whole different used car (that, I will say $1500 tops).

Thus, I will nonetheless have enough money for a MacBook in June. However, I am interested to know what printer and possibly what iPod I get from rebates. What would I expect?

Oh, and any ideas on the car? Look on my OP, and you can see the parts that need repairs. Thanks.
