The power cable was attached to the Studio Display in the box.

I am not going to attempt any further in removing the power cable, because it seems pretty firm.

Can anyone verify if the power cable can be removed?

Otherwise, this is going to make cleaning my desk very difficult for me, since my cable management has all the cables tied together and routed underneath my desk. There is barely any wiggle room to move the display while the cable is attached to the display.

Yes it is removable. Not easily, and it is not a standard plug, but it is removable.

Is it like the HomePod where it is removable, but not intended to be user removed. Or is it like an M1 iMac, but without magnets?

As @KPOM mentions the power cable is removable. It just requires a substantial amount of force, a lot more than the average person is likely to exert in fear of causing damage.

I saw it demonstrated by Linus Sebastian on the WAN Show. Here is a link to the WAN Show recording where they bring out their own Studio display to try removing the cable. The following link shows Luke trying to remove the cable without success:

This is the same video but a little further showing Linus taking over and removing the cable:

Hope this is informative :)

Apple clearly state this : "The power cord is not removable."

Correct, although I think it is more of a 'you should not remove the cord', rather than you cannot. By the way, nice link. That has some pretty useful information including the bit about the power cable.

Also, I imagine that if the cord gets damaged somehow, such as a pet chewing on it, you can take it to a Genius Bar and get it repaired/replaced. Hopefully, they offer the ability to purchase a replacement power cable in the rare situations where yours gets damaged, instead of paying for the time and expertise of an apple employee replacing the cord.

Pretty funny for Apple to make a "bitch" move like this, they removed power brick in all Iphone's boxes because "landfill" reasons but it's ok to put a proprietary, non-user replaceable power cord on a DISPLAY.

Apple make good products, but men, it's sure that no one beats them in term of shady business practice.

I totally agree that making the display cable non-user-replaceable is definitely hypocritical, especially with Apple's recent stance on trying to be environmentally sustainable in the last few years.

Apple's "shady business practice" are a bit different compared to everyone else's "shady business practice".
How do you rank this to selling the users data, to shipping system with malware preinstalled, to paperlaunches etc etc

IMO the reason why Apple gets more flak on these is that they were supposed to be "the good ones", and yeah I do agree putting in a shallow standard plug or even going MagSafe would have had 0 impact on Apple's bottom line which is somewhat frustrating.

They might have done it for clearance reasons. That connector is not as deep as a standard one and getting a non-standard removable cable through approval processes may have just not been worth it. Just look at it. It’s clearly made to save space.
exactly this.

Also it is removable. I removed it. It didn’t take an unreasonable amount of force to do it either here. Just more than an IEC lead.

Then again if you look at Iiyama monitors they have a “feature” where the IEC lead tends to fall out and make a nice arcing noise once a month. At least it’s not that way round. Our poor ops guys are forever exorcising that demon while some poor staff member thinks their monitor is going to blow up.

Why did they do this?
If I had to make a negative take on this, then maybe they rather have you replace the entire display. Or maybe make it difficult for you, since you have to take the display to the Apple Store, instead of buying a cable yourself.

I believe they had a reason for this, a very inconvenient reason.

I think Apple is trying to mitigate dust infiltration as there is no way for consumers to clean the 2 fans in the interior of the Mac Studio.

Unless you disassemble it like Max Tech or iFixit - you can't clean it.
??? What?

We're talking about the Studio Display and the power cable not being user removable in this thread.

Why did they do this?
Nearly every time I tilted my ancient iMac up the power cord would catch between the desk and the wall and unplug my iMac. It was maddening. I had to zip tie the powercable to iMac stand allowing enough slack to allow me to adjust the iMac in the full range of motion.

Apple or an authorized service provider can replace the cable.

If a company want to sell my data, i don't care if it's only my browser history or what thing i like, etc... But when you have Apple who doesn't care about their customer, acces their private photos and videos, don't allow 3rd party to repair your phone, tablet, computer.. Or block any attemp changing your iphone screen yourself by locking the screen to your iphone yeah.. It's not much worse than selling a computer with a "malware" (wich you can still always remove by wiping your computer..)

And why a pro (the primary audience of the Studio Display) need to take his car, make a 1 hour or plus ride to the Apple store juste to change a freacking power cable ?

So you are saying that you don't care or can work around other companies doing shady stuff.

Guess what I don't care about that power cord as I have no intention of buying that monitor, I don't care about looked down screen-replacements as I have yet to break one.

So yeah, your milage may vary but there are for sure tech companies far more evil than Apple (looking at you Facebook) plenty more being clumsy money grabbers so in the world we life in Apple is the least worst option and I won't get a heart-attack over things that I can't fix.
