I've discovered this weird thing and wonder if it's just my system. If I set the double click speed to its maximum value (System Preferences -> Mouse) I can no longer open with double click folders that are on my desktop while it still works from the finder. I got the same thing from the mouse and from the trackpad. I have OS X 10.5.6. Could someone please try this ?

You're probably not being fast enough.. 😕

Works for me, and you don't have to click insanely fast, either (well, kind of).
