At midnight PT on 10/27, I'll be pre-ordering four iPhone Xs via the Apple Store app (although via PC is also an option). I want the process to go as smoothly as possible, so I'm requesting any tips or suggestions you have, along with any gotchas associated with my plan.

I'm currently a Verizon customer with only two iPhones on the account (my wife and I). My plan is to purchase two Xs outright at full price (to replace mine and my wife's phones), and then purchase two Xs on either Apple's or Verizon's upgrade/payment plan (probably Apple's), effectively adding two lines to my plan for the kids.

Can/Should I do this all in one purchase, or must/should I break it up into separate purchases? Any other considerations I need to weigh here?

Thanks in advance!

To Avoid any issues, I would do it separately, I'm not sure if the system will allow you Order four iPhones combined , regardless of how you are paying for them.

I guess I'm hoping if there is a limit, it's two (allowing me to purchase the two outright), and then maybe the other two will be allowed since I'm adding two lines?

I think it is two. Worst case, use your wife’s Apple account and buy the two new lines there?

Max limit is two, so I would sign into the Apple store on two separate accounts and just operate them simultaneously at 12 on the button.

You can't order 4 at a time but if you add 5 and mix up the colors and storage options you should be ok.

So, below is my current plan, in order, starting at midnight, moving as fast as humanly possible. See any issues?

1. From my phone, purchase my X outright via Apple Store app using Apple Pay (default payment type = my Visa Debit card linked to our shared bank acct)
2. From my wife's phone, purchase her X outright via Apple Store app using Apple Pay (default payment type = her Visa Debit card linked to our shared bank acct)

But here's where I'm not sure exactly how to proceed...

3. From my phone, add a line to our Verizon family account and purchase an X on either the IUP or Verizon payment plan for my son.
4. From my phone, add a line to our Verizon family account and purchase an X on either the IUP or Verizon payment plan for my daughter.

Will steps 3 & 4 require a credit card (vs. a debit card)? And if so, should I just go ahead and switch my Apple Pay payment type to a credit card? Or can I add a second payment type to my Apple account and just select it for steps 3 & 4? Also, would you recommend performing steps 3 & 4 via the Verizon app, or just stick with Apple? I'm not sure which option to select when purchasing for steps 3 & 4 since I'm buying phones on a payment plan, but also adding lines for them.

This looks confusing as hell, I don't know how you guys are doing all this. If you are able to get 4 I'd be pretty shocked. I would think after your first order of 2 goes through, by the time your next order is in there wont be any left at launch.

Can you add a new line for Verizon using the Apple Store app? I don't see that option. I think you have to do those via the Verizon app or Verizon website.

On an unrelated note, I don't understand why you'd use a debit card for purchases this size. The amount of points or cash back you could earn from a rewards credit card is significant. Not to mention the extra purchase protection that comes with most premium credit cards.

I'm in the exact same situation as you, and I'm also on VZ. My plan is to call VZ (house phone) place the order for 2 & pay full retail, while also on the APL APP (iPhone) placing 2 orders under my pre-approved IUP plan. And lastly, using the VZ APP (iPad) just to cover all bases.

What will you do if they don't all come together, who gets the first phone, you or wife?

My kids have a 7 and 7 plus from last year... If they needed new phones today I would buy them an 8. No way I am bumping them up to the X.

I considered this, but ultimately refused to pay $800 for a phone that was outdated 15 minutes after it was announced.
