Long time Plex fan here, but in more recent years I feel it's slowly morphed somewhat into data-mining bloatware. I opt out of data sharing my local library but it still feels like I'm under surveillance. You can't even login to the server these days without a WAN connection - or if you can then I'm yet to find the option toggle.
Kodi > Plex

On another forum I saw a suggestion that the "stream your own stuff" functionality may gradually get worse and worse. The premise was that these rentals are a new income stream for Plex, and that over time the movie studios may start dictating "stop doing X, or we'll take away some of your income stream".

Possibly a bit cynical, but possibly not...

If I can't stream my own stuff (or the experience becomes too much worse), it will mean the plex client will not have a reason to be in my face and they will lose all chance of me (and others) ever buying, renting, or subscribing to anything from them. Nobody that I know of is hanging out in plex all day for its streaming content.

Yeah, so this is the end of Plex. I know they need to make money, and that is fine, but few app versions later, we will be showed to rent their movies. And probably without option to run this off in the menu.
