I just got around to installing plex on a mac mini. Its on all the time and it breezed through reading my library. Then I installed Plex on my iPad to view the movies.

Everything works fine, but what is throwing me off is the multiple servers listed. One for the mac mini, one for the windows machine, one for the iPad.

Does every occurrence of plex have to run it's own server,?

Just looking to watch movies on those devices, or is there a reason for each device running plex to have its own server?

That's how Plex works. Basically the "app" and the "server" are the same thing.

Each app can store locally synched content, so thats why the apps can be selected like the original server. I actually use the web interface pointed to the server on all my ipads - i like using that better than the separate apps.
