I've read this "Plex has to provide its content catalog directly to Apple in some way for it to be available in the TV app.
It doesn’t read the Plex app directly, but rather gets its data from the cloud."

so its not even from your device, waste of time, NO TV APP for me(again)

Interesting, but I've just switched to InFuse as the Plex player is broken with HomePods as default output and doesn't appear interested in fixing it.

EDIT: Saw that it will never support personal libraries so why even bother…?

Plex is really on a roll to alienate it's customers and move to a streaming platform, I now dual run JellyFin - I use Jellyfin where the client is available and Plex for devices without... it's a massive PITA to get my parents and family members to unpin the crap that Plex shove down your throat.

On the one hand MacRumors pretends that privacy is important. But then MacRumors advertises Plex (and also WhatsApp, etc), although Plex is also rather questionable from this point of view and requires an Internet connection including registration. Or has something changed here?
Emby is in my eyes from this point of view the better alternative. Or you can go directly to Jellyfin (Emby Fork - OpenSource).

This article isn’t an ad for Plex, is it?

Yeah, I think it's mostly corporate intransigence on their part, and it may also be partly about some arrogance about maintaining their own brand identity. Netflix wants to be seen at "Netflix" and not just another option within the Apple ecosystem.

I don't think Netflix would lose much demographic information, since even despite Apple's strict privacy policies, you'd still have to open the Netflix app to actually watch something. Mostly they might just lose some of the data they collect on browsing and searching habits, which I suppose in today's world of navel-gazing analytics could still be a pretty big downside.

That said, they would be sharing some of that data with Apple, but I can't see that being nearly as big of a concern, at least not on anything more than just the sheer principle of maintaining their own closed fiefdom.
It's super frustrating from a user-perspective. Netflix is the only one of the services that I use that doesn't integrate. It's so jarring now lol. I'm in Canada and have a few services going. Crave does it. CBC does it (though it seems to be kind of broken last time I watched Kim's Convenience...) Disney+ does it. Amazon Prime does it. Netflix you dummies.

Agree. Even Tubi does it.

The most random niche ones even bother to do it lol Probably because they understand the value it brings to the users, and keeps them visible. That's the thing. I've forgotten quite a few times about shows I wanted to watch that were only on Netflix just because I use the TV app so much now. I like adding things to Up Next for future viewing when I'm in the mood. Like "oh that looks nice, I'll watch it some time this month." but with Netflix, it's like "That looks cool. Guess I'll try to remember it." and then of course I forget about it because it's not in Up Next.
