I installed this today as instructed. When I opened the Trailers App, it says trailers not available. And then my Apple TV lost all apps and only shows computers and settings.

What did I miss?

That is usually caused by one of two issues:
1. Did you point the DNS on the ATV to your pc running plex connect?
2. Did you install the certificates on the ATV?

I did point the DNS to my Mac

I thought the latest version doesn't require installing anything via usb on the Apple TV?

It is correct that you don't need to use a USB connection to load the certificates. You still need to load them, you just do it by pressing keys on the remote and typing in a URL. Very easy to do.

Ok. Thanks. I missed that portion.

Okay, stupid question, but any clue as to why when I go to the Trailers I get the error that the Trailers are unavailable?

PlexConnect is running, I have my PlexMedia Server set up, and I believe I followed the instructions properly... (DNS/Cert/Profile stuff). Everything went smoothly until this last part.

I know it is pretty vague, but any ideas?

I get this sometimes. It is usually a result of your router assigning a different IP to your mac. That is, you are not using a fixed IP for your mac.

When you type in the DNS number of the Plex Server on your Apple TV, it is typically the same internal IP as your mac running Plex. Many routers allow you to reserve a fixed IP so that your mac has the same internal IP all the time. If that's the case, you shouldn't have any problem.

In my case, I have a cheap-o router that doesn't let me use fixed/assigned IPs on my network. It dynamically changes them (annoyingly). Hence, after I've gone and told my Apple TV which DNS server (IP address) to check, my router goes and changes that IP address, and now the Apple TV is pointing to the wrong IP address and can't see the plex server.

This is typically accompanied, for me, with the Apple TV losing all connectivity. The fix is to go back into Settings --> General --> Network and switch back to automatic instead of the setting to use a fixed DNS server. This will get your connectivity back. Then go back to your mac and double-check what the Plex Server IP is, and type that back into your Apple TV.

After spending quite a bit of time on the Plex forums looking for solutions to my particular Plex issues, I've seen quite a few people highlighting similar problems to Blades', and they said that conflicting NAT was the problem. Possible?

I am hoping I might get some directions here as I have looked elsewhere without any luck.
I have tried to install Plexconnect on my ATV3 (7.0.3) but failed dismally. Is it possible to do this with 7.0.3?
I have followed instructions on github and from others and seem to have set up the plex server on my W7 pc as I can see the library I created via chrome - it all appears ok.
When I try to install plexconnect on ATV, I get to the stage where I try to reboot the ATV before adding a new profile. When I try to reboot, nothing happens, the wheel keeps spinning. I power ATV off and on again and the usual ATV menu comes up but the remote does not work at all. The only way I can regain control is to restore ATV thru itunes and then I am back to square 1.

The main reason I am trying to use Plexconnect is that I have a large number of movies on a hard drive and I do not want to have to import them all into itunes. Is there a better (easier) way to access media on a hard drive connected to my pc and play them thru ATV than using Plexconnect?
Thanks
Chris

Would these movies need to be transcoded to be viewable in iTunes?

Because, if so, I'd think all that would be necessary is queuing up the transcodes in HandBrake and letting it run over night for a few nights (depending on the number of movies, of course).

If they wouldn't need to be transcoded, all you have to do is drag them en masse to iTunes, and make sure you've unchecked the box in iTunes preferences that says "copy imported files to iTunes Media folder". This way those movies can stay on your external hard drive, and still be "imported" into iTunes. If no transcoding is required, this process should take < 1 minute.

I've used Plex and XBMC on my apple TV 2, but frankly I prefer getting as much things in through iTunes as possible because it is just less hassle to manage and view it on the Apple TV long term. (I've only really used XBMC and Plex to get streaming shows on my Apple TV that are not easy to get there otherwise, like Daily Show, network prime time shows, etc. Sure those can be air played, but it's a hassle.)

Thanks for your reply.
I will do as you suggest thru itunes as it is probably the easiest path.
I was hoping to avoid using itunes as I do not like the way it forces options onto me when using it on a pc or mac. I have only just got an ATV so itunes may be ok on that.
Unfortunatley most of my media will have to be transcoded but I will batch those jobs overnight.
Thanks again

Before I go through this whole thread and possibly others... Can someone tell me if it's even possible to use PlexConnect with my remote linux server running PMS? I have multiple users that have the iOS/ATV setup working fine but I'd like to get the just ATV solution working for them, if I can.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

they would have to have the plexconnect running on their network. but once they login it should be able to see your server.

also the plexconnect forum is a better place to get answers, as it will get more traffic from experienced in using it.

Exactly. Though last time I used openconnect, which you'll find in that forum, made it very easy to set up things.
