solution for "plink" that worked for me
Hello friends -- I am a first time poster, so forgive me in advance if I mess up any rules of etiquette. I am posting because this "plink" issue was giving me a problem, and forums like these really helped me figure out what was going on. I hope that I can share something that will help.
So anyway, based on the fact that if i put pressure on certain parts of mbp's bottom I would hear this plink with greater frequency, and from what others have said on other forums

I figured that the best hypothesis was that something was scratching the inside of the bottom cover. I took the screws out (if you do this, try to arrange the order of the screws in the way you took them out...some screws are different). I removed the cover, and noticed that there are tiny pegs. they are springs so that the cover doesn't damage the internal hardware. These pegs make contact with the inside of the mbp's bottom -- there is even some plastic covering on the inside of the mbp's bottom cover so to avoid metal-to-metal contact. It seems that Apple may have screwed on the bottoms so tight that these pegs have worn away this plastic and thus introducing metal-to-metal contact (hence the plink, especially with certain pressure).
As many others have mentioned -- the sound may go away simply by putting the cover back on. The reason is because we may not put the screws back on as tightly as Apple did. This worked for me -- I haven't heard the plink since.
Sorry for the long post, but this method worked for alleviating my "plink" and I thought I'd share some reasoning on why it may work for you. Good luck!

The other day I suddenly noticed a metallic "plink" sound eminating from my brand new (3 weeks old) MBP. Naturally I looked this up and found this Thread.
As I have an SSD, this is clearly not a hard drive noise. In fact it does it when the computer is turned off.. From what I can tell it is related to pressing down on the area on either side of the mouse pad, and also clicking on the mouse pad itself. It makes a plink when pressing down (not always) and then another after pressure is released, sometimes itis almost instant - sometimes it can take almost 30 seconds.
It happens significantly more often when on my lap - as opposed to on a table.
So I am convinced this is mechanical and related to the internal structure, although for the life of me - I cannot think what it may be. Applecare sucks eggs (will only dealt with it if I leave it with them - which is not going to happen) and so I am going to have a look at it myself when I get a chance.
*sigh* and the whole reason I bought a MBP this was for build quality
