are you saying i shouldve clicked "sync apps" BEFORE i restored from back up or after???

when i click on "sync apps" after i restored from back up all the apps are randomly placed on my iphone home screen.

here is exactly what i did

1- transferred purchases from iphone 4s to itunes
2- backed up iphone 4s
3- plugged in iphone 5 chose the option to back up from iphone 4s.
4- phone restarted and i saw my photos and everything like default apps etc. but none of my downloaded apps were on the phone.
5- manually synced apps on new iphone . all apps were randomly placed on my homescreen

this is very frustrating can those of you who are successfully able to do this tell me your itune settings?
Yeah, the fact that you synced them after is why they just spammed like crazy onto your phone with no order. If you save them on your 4S backup and restore it from that they will stay in the folders.

BTW, the iPhone 4 that I used the backup from was (and is) still running iOS 5.1.1. iPhone 5 iOS 6 accepted the backup without question/problem.

If you don't sync your apps when you backup, then your phone has no idea what apps you downloaded or where they were placed on your phone when you restore. Also, if any apps were pulled form the app store, you won't be able to download them again either.

Would this work for the OP?

1. First, make certain you DO NOT have the Automatic Sync box checked. You want to initiate all activity.

2. If you named your new iPhone the same name as the old one, change the name of the older one so that your old iPhone keeps its current correct contents. Do this before you go any further. Name it iPhone 4.

3. Backup the old iPhone again to iTunes, checking Sync Apps prior to running backup. This would preserve the folder structure used by the old iPhone.

4. Plug new iPhone in to iTunes again and choose Restore from Backup again using most recent backup of older iPhone.

What is a "secret" folder? is this a jailbreak thing?

No, it's we're u can keep photos and stuff that no one can get into unless they know the password

I wasn't aware you could do that without a jailbreak, unless it's some app you've downloaded that gives you that ability? Either way, I don't think either would transfer from a backup.

Porn.

Maybe remove the password protection in order to allow it to transfer, then reset it on the new device?

Connect to iTunes and then add the folder so that it will sync.

i backed up my i4 using itunes - then i restore with my i5.

all the folders were neatly arranged as per the last i4 backup.

some apps - i had to redownload again from my i5.

other than that - it was a breeze.

even my ringtone setting and my alarm clock time and tone was all transfered from i4 to i5.
