Plug Icon in Notification Area in XP

I had unplugged my MagSafe adapter while in OS X. I rebooted into XP. I looked at the notification area and saw the battery icon. I plugged the MagSafe back in and the icon changed to the "safely remove hardware" icon.

Is this normal? Just curious.
