Plugging guitar into Mac

Hi
I have a fairly cheap electric guitar which I want to plug into my iMac. I know there are lots of ways to do it (Griffin Garageband cable, Monster iStudioLink, use a preamp, etc.) but I don't know which one would be the best.
The Garageband cable sounds the easiest but will it be half-decent quality? If not, how else should I do it? I just want to record 1 guitar at a time at a decent quality without too much hardware and without spending too much.
