Fans of new Apple TV series Pluribus can download a chapter of historical (and fictional) romance novel "Bloodsong of Wycaro" from the Apple Books app today. Written by Pluribus main character Carol Sturka, Bloodsong of Wycaro recounts the adventures of Lucasia as she sails on the Mercator, dreaming of her lost love Raban.

Played by Rhea Seehorn, Carol Sturka is a fantasy romance author who hates writing non-serious books and can't stand the fans obsessed with her characters, but the Winds of Wycaro series pays the bills.

Bloodsong of Wycaro plays an important role in the first two episodes of Pluribus, and Apple is using the fake book excerpt to promote the show. The excerpt features eight pages from the middle of Carol's book, along with a letter from the author.

The first two episodes of Pluribus debuted on November 7, and the third episode is available as of today. It is the latest Apple TV series, created by Breaking Bad's Vince Gilligan. In the series, Carol Sturka is one of the sole survivors of a mysterious virus that infects the world's population.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV, Apple's streaming service. Apple TV pricing starts at $12.99 per month, but there is a free 7-day trial available.

If only for those who haven't tried out this series yet, nearly all of the world's population survives the infection (whether it's a virus or something else hasn't been revealed). Carol is one of a handful who hasn't been changed by it. So far, the series is a bit of a riff on "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers," but seeing as this is a Vince Gilligan creation, we can be sure it is going somewhere else entirely. Rhea Seehorn is terrific as Carol, another Gilligan character we love to hate.

Just like that Severence book, I’ll download it but never read it.
...but your innie will love it! :)

When the whole "in universe" point of the book is that it's a pile of crud, that doesn't exactly make you want to rush out and read the real life version! To be fair, the short quotes (in both cases) used in the shows were hilariously bad...

watched all 3 episode and waited for something to happen, its like in slow motion. And Carol is sich a Karen it is barely endurable. the 3rd episode almost nothing happened, except her being annoying...

I agree the quotes were hilariously bad but from the innies point of view they were incredibly inspiring and hence to us the viewer.

I don’t like it at all. Don’t understand all the hype.
I watched the first two episodes and decided this is a show I might come back to when there is a slow time and I have nothing better to do. I found episode 1 intriguing but I found episode 2 kind of boring and Carol unlikeable. I also don't know how long a premise like this can go.

Spoilers: The inhabitants of the entire world have become a sentient being. Think of a social network made of people’s brains without the phones, computers and online social network as a go between. This has created peace and bliss all around the world. The cinematography and way the people move in sync when driving and walking is incredible. It is because everyone knows what everyone else is doing because they have a shared consciousness.

Carol is a total Karen and is very annoying because she is immune to the algorithm or “virus” that did this to everybody else. I think they said there are 11 other people in the world like her and in episode 2 she met the English speaking people that agreed to meet her. Since she doesn’t feel the connection like the rest of the world she can’t wrap her head around it and accept it. Rejecting all the olive branches and help from “them” like a total jerk. They bring her a delicious looking plate of what looks like eggs benedict but she throws it in the garbage. Then she goes to her local Sprouts that is empty because all the smart people have localized everything for efficiency, but they are still willing to totally restock what was a completely empty store to appease this curmudgeon. They must have a higher consciousness because any normal person would tell her to shove it. The show does set the tone in episode 3 that Carol is an habitually unhappy person and probably always has been.

I still like it even with the main character being such an unlikable see you next Tuesday because that is great acting, great storytelling and great execution. Just like a villain in a story that you love to hate.

Sorry if anyone was holding out and didn’t want the information but I have read too much from people that just don’t get this show. It doesn’t lay everything out for you on a platter. It makes you ingest it and process it for yourself.

Gee thanks for the spoilers. Fortunately, I've alway ready seen the first 3 episodes, but part of what makes it good is not knowing what's going on at the start.

Vince Gilligan and Rhea Seehorn are terrific. So far living up to my expectations which were quite high. Can say I'm hooked 100%. Funny I am also rewatching Better Call Saul, is amazing how different Kim and Carol are!

Great show. Saw the first 2 episodes. Will check out this 11 page book! Can be an interesting way to highlight Apple's brand new show.

By nearly all, you mean a billion dead, lol.

Wow, spoiler city. I deliberately avoided revealing that plot detail. I only wanted to correct the misleading idea that Carol is one of a few "survivors." If accurate, this would make "Pluribus" a post-apocalyptic story, which it definitely is not. Also, what causes the abrupt change in human behavior has not been specified as a virus. Its origin has been kept ambiguous so far, presumably on purpose.

Carol is an idiot

I get the uniqueness but that’s an obsolete trait for a species which evolved and are acting like one organism

See 🐜 ants , bees. 🐝
Is it? This seems to be the big question posed by the series.

Gilligan specializes in creating unsympathetic characters who find themselves in dire circumstances of their own creation or beyond their control (or both). But he never mocks these people. There but for the grace of God go I, he's saying. Under the same circumstances, Carol, Saul or Walter could be any of us.
