Because people wanting an upgrade / new design after 4 years from their plus sized phones shouldn’t have to compromise on the screen size.

And they don’t have to as they can stick with their plus sized phones...but the X was never said to be a “replacement” for the plus sizes phones.
It feels like an iPhone 5. Don't give me measurements. I know. I am just saying, that was my first impression. I feel like I am using my old iPhone 5 size-wise.

It's narrow, and tall. The height does not help make it feel bigger. It feels much smaller despite the dimensions.

Be prepared if you love the size of the Plus. Coming from a 6/7/8, it should be a treat.

Coming from a 5s, I confirm it is definitely a pleasure! The form factor of the Plus was just too big for me, personally, due to hand size and for portability preferences, but I can understand why others prefer it. I prefer to use an iPad/Mini for movies and such so for me the X works brilliantly for my purposes.

I got my X one Friday morning... I picked up my iPhone 7 plus again... holy crap this phone feels huge and weird. I got so used to the rounded corners of the screen and apps in general, going back to the full-rectangular screen of the 7 is truly something. Also, the size of it also makes me appreciate the X much more.

I appreciate these responses. I’m glad I stuck with my 8+. I’m holding out for X Plus hopefully next year
i came from a 7 plus to the X... i'm truly loving the smaller size compared to the Plus... i'm really unsure how I would feel bout an X Plus.

Thats how i feel is I’m not sure i want an X plus

Here’s my 2 cents: I’ve had pluses since the 6 Plus. At first i wasn’t too worried about it. But when i actually transitioned over to the X I feel and noticed the size difference. I guess I got used to the double handed use of the plus and the big bulge in the pants pocket. Don’t get me wrong, I love the size of the X. If there was an X Plus, I’m sure I probably would’ve bought that instead... ahem 2018 lol

The transition has been rather smooth for my wife and I. The biggest change for us is in how to interact with device, rather than the difference in size.

I have been a plus user every year since the 6 Plus. I even purchased the 8 Plus on launch day. I am having no issues with the transition. Love the phone. I have always missed the small factor of the iPhone 5. What I like about the X is that I get that feeling but with a bigger screen. I couldn't be happier. The notch turned out to be a non-issue as well for me.

I have had the X for 24 hours now. Prior to this I used 6+, 6S+, 7+. I got used to the smaller width in no time. I now love it. This fits well in the front pocket of my jeans. The face ID is super fast, the smoothness of page control is superb. The screen is very nice and images sharp. I would not take a free 8+ even if given. Interestingly, my wife always used the non plus sizes. We have now converged on a single iPhone. So I wish for anything? Yes. I would have been happy with a little bit more width. Not the 8+ size, but since more than now. The notch is something I don't even notice.

The majority of my concerns about the X during the reveal have been validated.

The only thing I was really wrong about is the notch, which is non-issue. It fades into the background during usage and you dont notice it at all.

Count me in for a X-Plus next year, but for now I prefer the iPhone 8+.

I have the X for about another week before it goes to my wife. In the event I feel differently I’ll post an update.

Fine for me. I notice that the screen is a little narrower, and so the screen does feel slightly smaller, but it doesn’t feel anywhere near as small as a regular 4.7 inch iPhone. It feels closer to the size of the Plus than the regular to me. And the small bezels and amazing blacks of the OLED screen are just amazing. Feels like a big upgrade over my 7 Plus. I haven’t enjoyed a new phone this much in years.

Apps look smaller on a bigger screen?

It isn’t a bigger screen, you have to wrap your head around that nonsense marketing, lol. It is weird, I am having a bit of a hard time adjusting. They can say the screen is “bigger” but its not. The usable space is much less than the plus models.

Maybe once apps become tailored to work correctly with the screen, but the aspect ratio wastes a lot of room doing most anything.

I like it, buts its weird, and NOT bigger than the plus.

How did I transition....I tried it out and the next day packed it back up in the box to return and went back to using my plus model. Something about the narrow screen drove me nuts. I am used to the display size on the plus and not to mention the extra width does make a noticeable difference when watching youtube etc. If you are upgrading from a non-plus model you will absolutely love the phone. The plus users on the other hand might have mixed feelings.

I mean you’re prettt spot on. At this moment in time the extra height doesn’t do anything for the user. Videos aren’t shot in that aspect ratio so it’s not helping there. And when you enlarge a video you have to deal with the notch and then you’re also missing some of the shot on all sides.

The screen works great in portrait mode but landscape is a mixed bag. If Apple allows developers to deal with the notch in new ways I can see it being more helpful. But for now, most apps run and look like an iPhone 6/7/8 inside a taller non used screen.

Coming from iP7+ I feel I have gone backwards in some ways. Really miss the plus screen size and keyboard. Do not get me wrong the X is awesome in many ways especially the Face ID. Super fast with unlocking each and every time (even worked when I had sunglasses on today). I cannot get over the speed of the device in general (very snappy) I have been a iPhone user since the the beginning and the OS is the fastest yet makes my iP7+ seem slow.

Not missing the virtual home button at all really like the navigation much more this way. I guess some of my disappointment is the apps that I use are not yet optimized for the X, once those are there I might think differently but with out those apps just seems I am using a smaller phone. Even in the apps that are X ready say for example iMessage I am not keen on the KB being shifted up to accommodate with the emoji and dictation microphone at the bottom taking up so much space. The sound from the speakers sound much better than my iP7+ not sure how but impressed nonetheless.

Still up in the air for now on whether to return for the iP8+, but will keep trialing. For me the best case scenario would be a plus model of the X.

I can understand the size being an issue of preference, but the price? I mean what’s another 200 at this point right? It’s how I sold it to myself lol
For $1200 I shouldn’t have to convince myself I love it and need it. I need to love it without hesitation lol. Eventhough the price difference isn’t much, it doesn’t logically make sense to pay more for a device that I only somewhat like vs paying $200 less for a device that I know for a fact I love. I thought I would love the X also but that’s exactly why there is 14 day return policy in place. Thank goodness for that! Lol

I️ got my wife the x 256. For her it’s great. Going from an old iPhone 6 64gb. Faster. Bigger screen but still able to hand hold.

I️ personally have the 7+ 256gb. And at first glance the screen looked fantastic. Sharp and crisp. Keep in mind I️ have big hands and I️ do a lot of landscape video viewing, the more I️ played with it the more I️ felt like the screen was smaller.

Due to the smaller width as many mentioned the videos are slightly smaller and the weird aspect ratio takes me back to the iPhone 4 when it had letterboxing. Drove me crazy then and thankfully the iPhone 5 was native fullscreen for most Netflix/video content.

If they were to virtually cut off the notches in full screen you wouldn’t have much cropping on top and bottom. But as it stands, it’s a no go for anyone who does anything landscape on the plus, unless you have small hands and just want a little bit bigger screen.

The cropping and notch bugs me

After ten days of use, I can honestly say I do miss the WIDER aspect of the PLUS. The skinnier form factor of the X just doesn't give that same size feeling (phrasing, boom!).

But, that being said, I do like holding the phone and typing without the subconscious fear that I am one L away from tipping the phone onto the ground!! It feels so easy to type and control with one hand and has roughly the same sized screen.

Now, if App Developers could put in some work and update their friggin apps, k?

I am impatiently awaiting for the outlook update for the iPhone X screen size!!

The cropping and notch bugs me

I hope Apple solves this by just cropping up until the notch and NOT all the way including the notch. It's cleaner that way, isn't it? Plus, they can include gestures on the "ears" of the notch for video playback control.

Coming from 8 + here and loving it thus far. Just waiting for all the apps to finally get updated to handle the X. Still getting used to the color shifting when holding the phone at different angles.
