i have been searching for a few hours now and i am now so very confused!! i would like to update my iphone 3gs. it is still on 3.1.2 and from what i gathered the modem firmware is 05.11.07. it is already jailbroken and unlocked using blackra1n and cydia. I am now very confused as to what to do. Information Overload :confused:

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank You! :)

Use TinyUmbrella to see if you have any hashes saved and report back
Is unlocking required (although you should preserve that unlockable baseband)
I'll assume it's old bootrom

Whatever you do dont update to official firmware.
See what shsh blobs you have available like my friend said using TU or by opening cydia and looking at the top of the page for shsh's listed.
You can restore to any of those firmware versions.
Dont go up to 5.0.1 cause the ultrasnow unlock hasnt been updated yet to work with that version.

Thanks!

Hi there! Thank you for replying :) I dwnld tiny umbrella. When I ran it, no saved SHSHs for my phone appeared. My phone is already unlocked and jailbroken and since I have to connected it back to my mac every time it shuts down I am assuming its a tethered jailbreak. I don't know if that matters. :)

Go to advanced on TU and check the box "request shsh from cydia" and then click save shsh again.
Let us know what's listed.
About your JB, you can probably run a program and untether it now on 3.1.2

I also tried the Cydia route. it said SHSH: iOS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.1. 4.2.1r1

My Cydia is also giving me a bunch of errors.

Ok, so the highest one available is 4.2.1?
See what TU lists also.
The highest I would go is 4.3.3 so you stay untethered and restore to custom JB IPSW to maintain your unlockable baseband. But lets hope you have 4.3.3 saved.

I am getting a message from TU saying "...Cydia is no longer able to reliably proxy SHSH requests..."

I really would not mind it I cannot go higher than 4.2.1. It's just that my phone has started being weird. My calendar does not update automatically most of the time and my emails stick and I get a few other problems as well. Sorry for all the questions.

Weird, my TU runs fine getting shsh's from cydias server.

I did some reading and changed the settings and this is what I got:
iPhone3GS 4.1 (8B117)
iPhone3GS 5.0.1 (9A405)
iPhone3GS 5.1b1 (9B5117b)

Well since cydia lists 4.2.1 then you should be able to restore to that version.
Before you do open up TU again, go advanced and Check the box that says "set hosts to cydia on exit."
This way when itunes requests the blobs cydia will have them available.
Then follow this tutorial to create a custom 4.2.1 with pwnage tool and restore to that.

Once you do that, open up cydia and install ultrasnow to unlock.

Hey there again. So I got to the iTunes step where I am supposed to restore the iPhone but when I click on Restore I am only getting the options "Cancel" and "Restore and Update" and it is prompting me to update to iOS 5.0.1 when I click on Restore and Update. I also have the option to Save the update dialog box. Where do I go from here?

Click shift + restore at the same time, iTunes will then allow you to pick the firmware to restore.

Put your phone in DFU mode and you can do that.

My phone is already in DFU mode. its just a matter of restoring it but iTunes won't let me do that. It is only giving me the option to "Restore and Update"

Solved the problem. I have a Mac. Shift+click only works on Windows. On a Mac you should hold down the Option key.

Hold the option key down and then click restore. It will then let u select the custom ipsw u created with pwnage.
Ok seems like u got it:)

Thank you so very much for your help!! It works perfectly! :)
My mom is now wanting her iPhone 4 on 4.3.5 jailbroken. But from my reading I found there is no untethered jailbreak for it. So here I go again!

Thanks again for your help! :D:apple:

I'm fairly certain that u cannot downgrade the 4 to 4.3.3 and I'm certain u can't take it below that. I think the 4 is affected by the changes they made that don't allow u to use the blObs to downgrade. It's always possible I'm wrong, and for your sake, hopefully I am

Found out that you can't downgrade to 4.3.3 so I am thinking about upgrading to iOS5 but is there a untethered jailbreak and unlock for it?

Is your 3GS old bootrom? If so jailbreak it using redsn0w, make a custom iOS 5 firmware with pwnagetool or sn0wbreeze, and restore to that.

Thanks but I already got everything done to my 3Gs. I was just wondering if I could upgrade my mom's iPhone 4 to iOS 5 and jailbreak and unlock it as well. I know it probably has nothing to do with my thread anymore. Sorry.

No, there's no untethered for 4.3.5 or 5.0.1 either. Is her i4 also unlocked with the 01.59.00 baseband using ultrasnow?
