Yeah, baseline dual 1.8 June 2004 G5 tower. Pioneer DVD burner.

These days it just spins up and down CDs/DVDs, takes a few minutes, and pits them out. No error message. Toast Titanium sense something along the lines of "MEDIUM ERROR SENSE KEY".

Any ideas?

Hi there my iMac G4 also has a disc drive that doesn't work but it still shows up in system profiler. You could always try a lens cleaning disc or some compressed air, but I would say you probably need to get a new disc drive and there not very expensive on eBay and should be really easy to install in a PM G5.

Also, media is good quality Kodak/Verbatim CD/DVD stuff. Works fine in my Macbook. Single layer stuff, east.

I also use verbatim, and you can always try the odd DVD or cd that know works in the mac. I still think that a new disc drive will be best and even if it did read something disc drives never get better.

Get a new DVD drive

Hey that same thing happened to my drive also. I just got a new one from goodwill for $3 works great.
