Pokémon Go fans waiting for a new reason to resume their engagement with the hit augmented reality title may have reason to cheer. According to MacRumors sister site TouchArcade, two features that were sorely missing in the game's original incarnation - real-time player battles and Pokémon trading - are said to be coming "soon".

John Hanke, founder and CEO of Pokémon Go developer Niantic, revealed in an interview that both co-operative trading and player vs player battles are in the works, although their introduction is likely to be staggered via a series of updates, in what he called "an abbreviated form".

The omission of the two features around launch time was said to be down to the daunting server issues the company experienced shortly after the debut of Pokémon Go last summer. Hanke revealed that if the company hadn't been so busy trying to keep the servers online, at least one of the features would likely have been in version 1 of the game.

"It's going to be done soon," Hanke told Waypoint. "It is what it is. I'll take the massive wave of hysteria we enjoyed, and just deal with the fact that it's caused us to take a bit longer to get the rest of the features up. We're really happy to make our users happy."

First off, they were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to use Pokémon IP on mobile and had Facebook like following overnight, but they blew it.

Secondly, I was very disappointed with the game, I'm disappointed with Mario Run, and even more disappointed with the ridiculously expensive IAPs in Fire Emblem, therefore I'm done with mobile gaming.

I preordered the Nintendo Switch, to play proper Nintendo games, that I pay once and enjoy for 10s of hours.

[doublepost=1487075985][/doublepost]What's the nonsense about resuming engagement. I can count on the fingers of one hand the days missed playing since started.

I just might take a break in protest if they ruin it by allowing trading as a short cut for the slow and steady work of filling out the pokedex. Especially if they rob me of the anticipation of the trips for landlocked (not immediately feasible but definitely in long term plans)

You're possibly the exception to the rule. I imagine a few more users would flock back if they allowed trading; not many people enjoy grinding away at a game to the extent you've described.

If the game wouldn't crash on a like 20 minutes basis or sometimes even at startup. Then. Maybe.

Nice to hear they're adding some of these things finally. Once it warms up I'll still play it as its part of my walking routine....and there is still a core you see playing it (gym's are still changing color constantly).

That said, there are some serious aspects to the game that make it harder the more experience you gain (capturing Pokemon's for example, they break out the more experience you gain) - discouraging players the longer they play it.

Agreed entirely. I too walk frequently as part of my after work routine, so I'm not a serious player but if I'm already walking 3-5 miles I open the app and hatch me some eggs!

Wait people still play Pokemon Go? That blows my mind. I've never seen a company so rapidly try and destroy their customer base as Niantic. I mean even Blizzard did it over the course of years, not months like Niantic. Oh you like that feature? REMOVED. Wash, Rinse, Repeat...

The game is still unreliable and tracking is still broken.

I open it every now and then to get the "1st of the day" extras. Many times nothing loads or I get the same birds and purple rats showing up.

Why is tracking still down? Why is the same stuff in the same areas? Why are "low traffic" areas still empty of all life?

Pokemon Go belongs on a list of huge things that were royally messed up and destroyed by their own creators.

I still play at least once a day since I'm a frequent Starbucks visitor and most stand alone stores now have stops. I'm there, why not. Also, like others have said, when I go for walks... why not? Trading might be cool, not sure if I know anybody who still plays to battle though. Keep those updates coming!

I only play it during those events like right now. It is pretty boring now and those fights r utterly useless. I dont understand people that get a hard on from catching a 100% pokemon.

Zelda has a $20 DLC. The days of pay once is over.

Lol, this is why you failed at keeping your player base, morons.

It only takes 2 people playing on different teams to change the gyms. I've had 3 gyms uncontested for the last 3 months straight and I only open the app once a day. Even back when I played all the time I would only see maybe 3-5 Pokémon a day. So at 300-500 stardust a day, how many days would it take to get 1 Pokémon maxed out? The answer is why I no longer play actively.

This issue has led me to want to smash my Phone, or skull... I'm not sure which. But the crashing is not every 20 minutes, it's like every 5.
