I can respond to stories in this forum from the front page articles. I can return to them if someone replies by clicking on their response in my notifications. However, I cannot get to this subforum any other way, and I’m not sure why.

How is this political? MR, are you absolutely sure you aren’t classifying things as political so you can control the thread more with PRSI rules?

It’s the other way around, isn’t it? What’s not allowed in PRSI is not allowed in the remainder of the site, while political talk is allowed in PRSI.
But what does this article have to do with politics? I’m sure they/you can rationalize it, but then that would mean anything can be political, right? If the President tweeted today: “HomeKit is the best home automation software out there” would that whole forum get moved?

I can only speak with certainty for myself, but I doubt very much anyone on the staff is interested in control beyond what is necessary to facilitate good discussion. Not everything can be discussed in every forum section, granted, so I suppose that could be considered control if it weren't for the fact that there is a section for most things. For example, if someone wants to discuss the political side of a news story that's not in the Political News section, all they have to do is start a thread in PRSI.

And I don't speak for the editors, but I would guess that the choice of where to place a story has to do with what sort of debate they picture as most relevant or interesting in that particular case. Editors make editoral decisions, after all - that's their job. But again, that doesn't stop anyone from discussing a different aspect as long as it's done in the appropriate place.
