I was suspended for talking politics in where we should not be. But sometimes it is difficult not to, when you go into something like AI and other stuff that is linked to politics in some ways.

The other thing I find is this site have far too many sections, some over lapping.

Just my view.

Is there a suggestion for the site about how to make the site less confusing or overlapping? Or are you saying you find it difficult to not talk politics in a non-political session?

Can MR please explain, and help us understand, some of the inconsistencies surrounding the following:

Why articles get posted untagged and then receive the "political" tag after the conversation goes off the rails vs mod'ing?
Why some articles allow political talk when not tagged?

Take this article:

There is a ton of "political" talk in this untagged thread, yet I have received warnings for doing the same. I reported one post to receive "no moderation warranted".

Take this article:

Some of us just wanted to read about the feature and not have to endure pages of Elon virtue signaling yet the article was, if I recall correctly, tagged "political" only after going off the rails, thereby allowing political comments and junk, off-topic posts.

It is hard to play by the rules when the goalposts are in constant motion.

Nowadays it is hard to find anything not related to politics. Everything is politics and at the same time everything is not. For example the incoming tariffs for Canada, EU and Mexico: while the topic seems purely political there are multiple interest zones for tech journalists like how it will influence tech prices in these countries, will Apple products be affected and whether it will reflect on service provider prices such as Netflix or Apple Music, and vice versa in terms of Spotify, (un)fortunately it is the only tech product Europe currently has🤣🤭 Selling Nokia to Chinese was a foolish move

Yeah, it recently happened to me, and I was surprised as I wasn't trying to 'start trouble.' One issue is that if you tend to open threads via the New Posts feature, you don't deliberately go into the Politics (or any other) section. Especially if the topic seems non-technical, it's easy to get lulled into thinking minor references are okay.

And like you note, sometimes politics logically connect with other topics. A.I. is a biggie.

All that said, politics in the context of the at times bitter and strong differences of opinion amongst the forum membership can easily amount to a 'powder keg' situation, so I imagine the mod.s get tired of people sniping at each other and their views, and prefer to 'nip it in the bud.'

It does seem heavy handed at times, but then again, look at some of the contentiousness in the section set aside for politics, contentiousness the mod.s presumably don't want to see leak out into the rest of the forum.

I feel that we should allow people to express their opinions freely. Moderation should step in only when conversations derail or when there are personal attacks.

I've noticed that the moderation here can sometimes feel heavy-handed. I believe there are more constructive ways to manage discussions than simply suspending users. The challenge might be that the moderators are either young or have perspectives that don't always align with certain individuals, which eventually leads to an echo chamber similar to what you might find on Reddit.

I used to enjoy posting here, and now I visit much less frequently due to moderation.

I think people need to realize that this forum is actually Arn's business. And as such, it is important to keep a tight rein on posting so that the site will continue to grow traffic and membership. There is a reason why MR is generally seen as the key place for Apple News and help.

From what has been said before by staff, (if I am not mistaken) writers are given the ability to tag certain articles as political.

Members don't just get suspended, mod'ing escalates from reminders & warnings, etc.. Ask me how I know. 😔
No but its conceivable that the OP's moderation history is such that he never violated the PRSI rule and still was suspended.

Stop covering it unless it actually becomes real
