Curious to get more details on folks' thoughts on the iPod Touch 6's screen size.

The rest of the boosts in specs are marvelous. For me, the 4.7" or larger screen was a requirement, and the main reason I'm NOT going to get it. Well, when my IpT5 battery goes, I'll end up seeing what my options are at that point, as well as how I feel about iOS then. However, it's definitely not going to be something I'm getting soon.

Contrast that to the past where I've been getting a new IpT since I first bought my IpT3. Furthermore, all of those upgrades have indeed been primarily drawn in by improvements to the display...

IpT4 now has Retina
IpT5 has an extra 0.5", as well as a better quality screen (the same one used with the Iph5/s I hear)

At first I thought like you, but I now think the iPod touch should continue to have a 4 inch screen. MKBHD brought up a great point in his review; the whole purpose of the iPod is to be a compact and mobile MP3 player. You should be able to tuck it away in you pants or an armband when you are working out. 4 vs. 4.7 isn't a ton of size difference on paper, but in your hands it will feel much larger.

And that's precisely why I bought an iPod touch. When I want something with a larger screen, I'll use an iPhone 6 or iPad. But exercising and running with an iPhone 6 Plus in an armband is just way too bulky. The iPod nano & shuffle do not support Apple Music, so that eliminates both of them from my list. That leaves the iPod touch as the most compact and lightweight device that does all of what I need it to.

It's perfectly reasonable if you preferred a 4.7" iPod touch. I'm sure many other people would agree. But just think about how even a few months ago, people thought that the iPods were completely dead. I'm just happy that the iPod touch received an upgrade at all, and a good one at that (A8 chip was a surprise). The 4.7" will come in the 7th generation, but not anytime soon. At least the 5th generation supports iOS 9 :)

I think the 4" screen size is perfect for the iPT. It is perfect for taking walks, going to gym and when you are really on the move. I may have still considered it at 4.7" but I just don't think it would be nearly as convenient as a device. I think Apple will only upgrade the screen size if Apple music does well and this one sells well. If this one sells poorly and Apple music isn't a big hit, then this will likely be the last one.

I won't be watching video on mine, that's for sure. But there is something to be said for compactness. I like my almost bezel-less Xperia Z3 Compact which has a 4.6" screen. I have a 5.5" Meizu M1 Note which is better for video and YouTube.

The iPt6 should be just fine at 4". That's still larger than what we were using a few years ago.

Larger than a 3.5" screen? If so, that's NOT saying much! And even then, we already had a 4" screen years ago via the IpT5 and Iph5/s

Well who cares, really - I have 4, 4.6, 5.5 and 9" devices; all have their uses. I don't think I'd give a s hit if the iPt 6 went back to a 3.5" screen, even.

It's why I'm not buying it. 4 inch screens are too small to play word games comfortably. It's a joke they didn't use the 4.7 inch screens. Apple can't seem to do much of anything right lately.

Which is my overall point... some people don't care about GPS, some don't care about the screen. Others about Touch ID.

However, if the IpT6 ended up getting the same camera as the IpT5, a meager A6, even still only 0.5 GB system RAM, but a larger screen, I'd actually be happy with that. I use my smartphone as my primary digicam, I don't really play resource intensive games, nor have too many apps open up at once, so *I* wouldn't give a s hit about those things.

If folks complained about those, I'll acknowledge it's important to them.

I'm glad it has a 4 inch screen. I love my 6 plus but sometimes I wish I had a smaller more compact iOS device and the new iPod touch is just that. If it was 4.7 inches or 5.5 inches it would lose its appeal for me.

Love the current screen size. For me it's perfect for one hand operation. Bottom of device rests on small finger first knuckle...thumb flying over the whole screen. Awesome. Mine should arrive today...blue 128 engraved...can't wait...

I've heard several folks who weren't happy about the larger screens of the Iph6/+ as well. They want an up to date Iph that still has a 4" screen since that's what they're used to, for better 1-handed use, etc. Like with those wanting a 4.7" IpT device, they'll have to wait and see if we'll get an up to date 4" Iph again.

For sure...many sites, take Yahoo News app for instance, have their back navigation button on the upper left. Can't reach that one handed on a 6 or 6 plus unless you have hands as large as Wilt Chamberlain...I think the touch 6 screen size is perfect. If you want to watch a video grab a tab...right?
