no I think I got lucky.

out of the box, my screen was definitely yellow but True Tone is default on. it really seems like True Tone is very aggressive on this phone.

my fix was:

True Tone off,

but night mode kicks in a lot earlier into the evening for me.

My Ip 12mini was very yellow compared to Ip 7. After turning off TT and NS and turning on the color filter and light adjustment, it's ok . But I'm going to go compare other models to the store to make sure the display isn't faulty.

My 12 PM looks perfect to me until I view it side by side with my IPhone SE 2020. It’s not so much that the Pro Max looks yellow when compared to the SE, but that the SE looks bluer (and whites do look brighter).

But I also know from working with D65 calibrated monitors that those blue/cool colors are not always accurate. I’ve had phones that I thought looked warm, but were actually cooler than a D65 calibrated monitor

Since my 12 PM looks good to me except when comparing it to my SE, and it has excellent uniformity (I can’t tolerate an uneven screen tint), I will be keeping it.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately, for my sanity), the Apple Stores here are open by appointment only, so I can’t just walk in and compare mine to the display models.

Doesn't make it better. Apple should by now then have procedure and better support for fine tuning. Not happy with colorfilter.it is hidden and fiddly to use. you can't see, save/restore the values.best is a screenshot of slider position.

My 12 Pro Max seems a bit yellower/warmer than my 8 Plus was when True Tone is on. Basically, it looks more like what True Tone used to look like to me before I got used to it. In any case, turning TT off makes it look about the same as what I’m used to now. Not sure if that makes sense. In any case, it’s not a big deal, so I wouldn’t say that it’s an “issue”.

edit to add:
This is also my first OLED display, and I’ve heard that it’s natural for them to be a bit “warmer” than LCD.

^ my 12 Pro Max and 11 Pro look exactly the same.
Now..... is it hardware issue or software.??
Conflicting reports are everywhere.
Either way I don’t think I could live with the 12PM screen long term.

I definitely think its hardware.... Can't really see how thats a software issue being that some people's screens look fine. I am waiting to see if a phone pops up for in store pickup so I can go grab one and return mine.... this is driving me bananas... I am using my phone in dark mode full time.

The problem I see with assuming it's a hardware issue is that it's very rare to find a non yellow display out there.
So, if the "issue" is this widespread and we assume it's a hardware thing there are only two possbilities, and both of them require Apple compliance:

1. Apple has lowered quality standards, which is troubling.
2. Apple has decided that displays should be warmer.

Other than that, I don't see any possibility. If you think of something else please let me know.

In a nutshell, If getting an exchange would have a 95% chance of solving the problem, we would be very likely in front of a hardware issue imo.
That's what make me think more towards a software issue.
