I also don't think text input is necessary and would probably prove to be a hindrance. Even if a novel way of inputting characters were devised (because the screen is way too small for a keyboard), I can't think of a situation where trying to type out a response on your watch would be less cumbersome than simply using your phone. For starters, I can type out a response on my phone with one hand. If I used the watch, I would need both.
